Nanowar of Steel: Epic power metal parody band

As a fan of both power metal and comedy, I was quite happy to discover this Italian band, Nanowar of Steel. They started out as just “Nanowar”, as a parody of ridiculous power metal band “Manowar”. Then a fellow Italian band, “Rhapsody”, had to change their name to “Rhapsody of Fire” for legal reasons, so Nanowar changed their own name to “Nanowar of Steel”.

Musically, they’re fantastic, and lyrically, they’re brilliant and hilarious (and ridiculous).

Barbie MILF Princess of the Twilight is apparently a bunch of riffs stitched together from various Rhapsody of Fire songs, and they even got RoF’s singer, Fabio Lione, to sing it.

Ironmonger (The Copier of the Seven Keys) is about an epic hardware store

Norwegian Reggaeton is self-explanatory, I hope

Hail To Liechtenstein Geopolitical metal!

And my favorite…

Valhallelujah Viking gospel metal

That’s great! That Barbie one was a perfect mix of parody and heavy metal: I had to listen to it twice because the first time I was laughing so hard at the lyrics and the video imagery it was hard to soak in the great thrash-y sound they had. Very creative.

I just bookmarked and subscribed to their channel because I want to hear more. The first I’ve ever heard of Italian hard rock.

There are a number of great Italian bands, like Frozen Crown, Lacuna Coil, and the aforementioned Rhapsody of Fire.
