I just wanted to share this as it is quite possibly that it is the greatest thing I have ever seen. Sweet Senate Resolution.
Seems a little fishy, along with some of the later provisions – those highlighting Idaho’s beef production and the status of culinary expertise in healthy relationships, for instance.
Some sources seem to be saying that this actually passed, while others assert that it did not. What’s the straight dope, here?
Tenebras
Fishy, indeed. It mentions Kip’s skateboard, but didn’t he use rollerblades?
No idea if it’s real or not. It is funny.
I was thinking they were roller skates (which would fit the old-fashioned theme), but as I’m typing this I think you’re right - they were rollerblades.
Well, if you go to the root website, it seems pretty legit to me.
It’s hosted on the website for the State of Idaho government, and is in the same place on that site as a bunch of other apparently legitimate pieces of legislation, so I don’t see any way it could not be legitimate. Besides, legislatures pass this sort of commendation legislation all the time, and the movie probably was a boon to the region and state’s economy. As for the “freakin’ idiots” and the like, well, legislators are human, too, and enjoy having fun as much as the rest of us, and a commendatory bill seems like a pretty good place to do it.
That official site also, incidentally, lists who voted for it. There’s a long list of "Aye"s, no "Nay"s, and one absent, so I think it’s safe to say it passed.

Hey Torie!
The Idaho Statesman reported on it; then again, they also said:
Sweet!
The movie is set in the modern day. The creepy uncle says he graduated high school in the '80s, and one of the major subplots revolves around internet dating.
Yeah, it’s legit. I know because I saw it on the Daily Show! (While I realize the Daily Show isn’t a credible cite, they had Samantha Bee interviewing the two legislators who introduced the bill.)
While it is indeed kind of cool…don’t they have better things to pass in Idaho?
Flippin SWEET!
Slightly disappointed because the bill didn’t mention Napoleon’s impressive dancing. Ah well. C’est la vie.
That’s freakin awesome! This is why I wish i were a sneator, because I would do nothing but introduce cool bills and resolutions like this.
Doesn’t sound like something you’d need to fake. Local governments love that kind of thing, and when was the last time someone made a movie in Idaho? *My Own Private *Idaho was filmed mostly in Oregon, to give you some idea.
I think the movie and the resolution are both getting more talk than they deserve, though.
This is excellent. I saw it earlier but assumed that the enclosing page was a clever forgery.
How good a day did the Hesses have, when they got a copy of this resolution delivered to their doorstep?
Smoke Signals, filmed on the Cour d’Alene reservation?
Having lived in Idaho for over a year now, I think it’s safe to say that the only two things better that they could have passed is water and gas.
I record The Daily Show every night and don’t remember seeing a piece on this. When was it?
Bruuuuuuuuucccceeee!!! Where you been?
Set mostly in Oregon, too.
