Narrator on "Up All Night"

I did a Google search, but all I could find on the show seems to be its current format, i. e., schlocky movies. I, however, recall that in the early-to-mid-80s, “Up All Night” (USA network) showed videos, schlocky movies, episodes from old 50s SF television shows (“Rocky Jones, Space Ranger”), all tied together by a female narrator/host with the most incredible voice I’ve ever heard. It was a warm, knowledgeable, friendly, sexy, EVERYTHING voice.

Who was she?

Sir

Is it this woman?

I know Rhonda Shear used to host the show (as did Gilbert Gottfried, of whom the less said, the better), but I’m not sure she’s the female host you were thinking of. Did they have more than one?

Dry,

Thanks. . . but I don’t think so. This lady only did the intros, commercial exits, brief set-up bits, etc., and I never recall seeing her on camera. Shear’s credits just don’t seem to go back far enough. I recall watching that “hodge-podge” I described around 82-85 or so.

FWIW, her first name may have been Pat, but I could be wrong, could just be dredging that name up out of nowhere.

Thanks again, though. Agree totall with you about Gootfried.

Sir

Well, actually on second glance, Shear’s credits go back to the mid 70s, sorry about that. I went to her home page, and it mentions sketch-work, but not narration, etc.

Hell, I’m beginning to doubt my recall of the show, although I thought it was “Up All Night.” The show I recall had a distinctive, multi-light, skyline sort of 80s visual opening. Does that make a damn bit of sense?

Sir

Sounds like you’re thinking of the show “Night Flight”, which is what USA ran back in the 80’s instead of “Up All Night”. It was an assortment of videos and cult movies/shorts. Rhonda Shear didn’t do “Night Flight”, but I don’t know who did.

You are right. Google has informed me that “Up All Night” replaced “Night Flight.” A lot of references to the mysterious female announcer, but no name. . . yet.
