NASA BROADCAST TIME DELAY?

Is there one or is what we are seeing being broadcast in RT? I did a search both in the archives and in Search and nothing came up. (I feel like I have to add this so that y’all will know that I tried to find a previous thread).

If there is a time delay, does anyone know how long it is?

Thanks
Q

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? WHAT BROADCASTS DO YOU MEAN? IF YOU KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS IN ALL CAPS I’M GOING TO GET VERY ANGRY. ARE YOU DON WILLARD’S BROTHER? TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY!!! ARRGH!

Dude!

The only time I use all caps is in the subject header, and if the moderator wants me to stop this, I will do so immediately! Meantime read the subject header again and see if you can’t get a clue, and maybe take some valium. Next time you feel the urge to correct me, I invite you to use my e-mail address, uh… “Chief”.

Note to moderator: Please advise, thanks. Sounds like my friend here may have stumbled in from the pit.

I, too, would like to know which broadcasts you are talking about…

Launches

I hate to have to help you find out what your question is, but you are still very unclear on what you are asking.

Which launch video? If you were watching one right now, It would definately be delayed, as I don’t think they launched a shuttle today.

Of course, you haven’t even stated that you’re talking about shuttles, so perhaps you’re more interested in another kind of launch.

I think the first question you have to ask is who tapes launches? is it NASA itself, or do they rely on a news organization? or a second party video company?

You really need to make clear what exactly it is you want to know.

When I’ve watched them on TV, the NASA-generated dialogue always seems to be perfectly synched up with the Network-generated video.

Why would NASA put things on a tape delay? Call-in TV/Radio shows often do, but that’s just so they can bleep out any caller-generated swear words.

Well, isn’t all broadcast from NASA (whether from space, or broadcasting a launch) time delayed, based on the fact if something goes awry and someone responds with an expicative, it can be tuned out?

Thanks, dublos. That was the question of course: is there a time delay built into a NASA launch broadcast? Okay perhaps I wasn’t as clear as I could be, but I thought it might be understood that it would be for a manned space flight and in case something (God forbid) should happen (think Challenger), is there a time delay built into the broadcast or not?

While I personally dislike all-caps thread titles (I kinda cringe when I see 'em), they are not against our forum rules.

I simply want people to be mindful that many people share my personal feelings on the matter and to post accordingly.

Is there a particular reason you think there is a time delay? That might help.

But if you’re watching over the internet, there will be a time delay due to the various compressing and decompressing steps, not to mention the actual transmission time.

Please. Disregard the question. Thanks.
