NASA climate report

“NASA won’t publish key climate change report online, citing ‘no legal obligation’ to do so” - Space.com

Would this not be available under FOIA?

This seems to be the right link:

The breakdown in public access has drawn concerns about government transparency and long-term support for climate research. The White House’s FY2026 budget proposal for NASA already suggests stripping the agency of 47% of its science funding, though that may now be getting some pushback from lawmakers in Congress.

The next NCA is scheduled to be published in 2028, but its future is uncertain. According to the New York Times, hundreds of scientists already working on the upcoming report were dismissed by the Trump Administration in April.

This administration is canceling even furure inconvenient information.

The regime has already taken down the website that specifically hosted the Fifth National Climate Assessment, although you can find the summary on the EPA.gov site and a more brief précis on the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory page. The actual report and ArcGIS ‘story map’ can be found at various non-government sites on line so it isn’t gone but this is direct violation of federal law to make the report and data freely available to the public. It has been assured that there will be no Sixth NCAR because the majority of people involved in doing the reseach and modeling have been fired from NOAA and the USDA.

NASA, of course, operates the weather and climate surveillance satellites used to provide data to NOAA, other government agencies, and governments and NGOs involved in climate modeling and prediction around the world. But hey, if you avoid seeing the danger you’ll be far more relaxed about it, amirite?

Killing the messenger who brings you bad news goes way way back:

Plutarch’s Lives includes a similar sentiment: “The first messenger, that gave notice of Lucullus’ coming was so far from pleasing Tigranes that, he had his head cut off for his pains; and no man dared to bring further information. Without any intelligence at all, Tigranes sat while war was already blazing around him, giving ear only to those who flattered him”

And Trump is bringing this back all over. I was just reading yesterday:

Now the coffee kicks in, I mean, future.

The whole thing makes me furious…

Did you guys see this:

US to rewrite its past national climate reports.

What does it take to have standing to sue the US government?

As an (presumably) American citizen, you have a legal right to the National Climate Assessment Reports per the Global Change Research Act of 1990 and all of the supporting data. There are, of course, copies online on non-governmental sites but don’t expect another assessment to be performed:

Trump and Co. have found the solution to all those inconvenient scientific measurements of carbon levels; get rid of the satellites that play a key role in measuring carbon.
