NASA sold moon landing tapes for $217 by accident to an intern

And now the owner is going to make a lot by selling them.

Reminds me of the guy who has a tape of most of Super Bowl I that nobody else has. But the NFL won’t buy it from him.

I don’t think that there was anything accidental about it, they just considered the tapes to be surplus junk even knowing the contents. (Sort of like the beeb with Doctor Who tapes.)

that must have been a pretty dumb guy if he thought it was junk. or maybe he asked his bosses and they said to sell the stuff. They could have reused the tapes which was common back then , at least at TV stations.

That is cool. I was watching a Moon landing hoax TV show just last week interviewing a guy who worked at the relay station that recorded the original tapes. After they were sent by satellite relay to Houston (and losing fidelity at the receiving end) they were mailed to Houston. He talked about how they would have been marked using a shorthand notation making them hard to find by combing through thousands of boxes of tapes.
