Nashville Explosion

Maybe a protest against 5G?

I’m glad no one was badly hurt. The aerial footage shows a lot of damage. I’ve visited Nashville several times on vacation. It’s a wonderful city. I want to go back in a couple years.

Reports of human remains found at the blast site.

I live about an hour away. The target could be the AT&T building. AT&T services (including my phone) are affected. Flights are halted. 911 service is affected. It appears the guilty party made a lot of effort to clear people away.

Reports from where? Not finding anything about this.

Never mind, found it on AP.

From Nashville police investigating 'intentional' Christmas morning vehicle explosion

The explosion disrupted AT&T service around Nashville, because of the proximity of the blast to the building, company spokesman Jim Greer said in an emailed statement.

Local news stations reported that 911 service was out in surrounding communities. On Friday afternoon the Federal Aviation Administration temporarily grounded flights out of Nashville International Airport, citing telecommunication issues related to the blast.

Could this be from something as mundane as an LPG (liquified petroleum gas—think propane) leak from the RV, that hit just the right mix to get an explosion, and not just a localized fire? The audible evacuation warnings: do we know they were coming from the RV, or might they have been from the adjacent AT&T building? (Which likely has things like voice announced gas detection alarms.)

The blast, if a vehicle borne improvised explosive device, is kind of small compared to what you could get from a device within an RV. Moreover, given how overbuilt switching stations are, a smaller device isn’t going to do much to the building. Then again, I’m not sure how much a Tim McVeigh bomb would do either, to something with foot thick reinforced concrete walls.

…nah. This is the plot to Diehard. Christmas day terrorist attack? Its a distraction. The police should be checking the local banks and vaults to see if any have been raided.

This doesn’t seem to be the case. The warning was much more specific than that, warning of a bomb, and giving a specific (if slightly wrong) time that it was going to explode.

Ah. The video clip I—very briefly—listened to, mentioned only to ‘evacuate immediately.’ “There’s a bomb here: run!” is quite a bit different.

So, any statement or demands issued yet by the bomber(s)?

Maybe this is part of that whole “War on Christmas” thing I keep hearing about. But seriously, the theory about some shady business owner doing this for insurance $$$ isn’t one I’ve heard. Maybe his policy doesn’t cover terrorist acts but anybody who’d do something like this probably isn’t smart enough to read the fine print anyway.

I was wondering if maybe it’s a k9 patrol.

100% speculation ahead (read: guessing):

Since there has been no one claiming responsibility and no demands have been issued I do not think this is terrorism. Terrorism has a political motive. The terrorist wants to see some change and so they are sure to claim responsibility and then tell people what needs to change if the public want the bombings to stop. That’s the whole point.

Also, if it were a terrorist bombing, they generally want to inflict maximum casualties. This one is not always true, IIRC the IRA would try to minimize human casualties (sometimes) but much more often than not the terrorist wants to cause as much terror in the populace as possible. It’s right there in the name.

This feels more like some disgruntled employee or someone with an axe to grind. They wanted to inflict damage on one thing and sought to otherwise minimize the collateral effects.

Just my $0.02 and a reminder I know nothing about this. All 100% a guess.

And where were they supposed to evacuate to?

This explosion also led to flights being grounded or diverted, and 911 services disrupted in multiple counties around Nashville.

My initial thought was that it was related to recent calls by some Trump supporters to declare martial law.

The initial call was for shots fired, and the police report human remains being found “near” the blast site.

My WAG - this was an elaborate suicide. The perpetrator had some beef against one of the businesses they parked nearby, set up the bomb and the warning recording, then shot themself.

I think it was just meant to be, “Get away from here…go anywhere else…just don’t be here.”

Not a flee the whole city warning.

My gut reaction when I first heard about this was it’s some Chump supporter. Sign of the times, I guess. I am fully aware it could be all sorts of other flavor of crazy, but it’s the first thought that crossed my mind.

I agree. Mine too.

This is a breaking news thread, so no political jabs, please.

I suspect we can all agree that someone went to a whole lot of trouble. For what purpose is a mystery.
