OMG! There’s some kind of National Emergency! I couldn’t hear the whole message, does anyone know what happened? Is it that thing in congress where they can’t hear anything because the speaker isn’t working?
Two minutes early here in SE Michigan as well. Was supposed to be at 2:20.

Is it like the time the earth was destroyed by a giant meteor and they moved everybody to a new planet but didn’t tell the stupid people about it so they wouldn’t panic? Uh oh, maybe should have kept my mouth shut.
I thought it was coming on TV too. Didn’t catch that one.

So did they bring the stupid people without telling them? Or did they leave them behind? Or did they put them on a shuttle to another planet where they crash-landed and eventually became us humans?

They tested the new National Emergency Alert system. I didn’t get it on my phone.

I have Amber alerts and weather alerts disabled but this is unable to be disabled. I also have my phone set to vibrate.
No matter. It came through and it was loud.
I was going to mention that. What else can the gubmint do to or with or phones?

Mine was not loud. In fact I thought it was my tiny tone for a pill alert. But I got the text. So I figured it out. I’m smart that way😊

My husband’s little flip phone didn’t broadcast any noise, it only got the written alert, but it was not saved as a text. I’m not sure that would do anyone any good in the event of a real emergency.
I had my phone on Airplane mode just to see if it made any difference, then I forgot to keep the phone with me at the crucial time – I was upstairs and the phone was downstairs. I think I heard it, anyway I heard something in the distance, maybe it was the neighbors. When I took my phone off of Airplane mode, it very kindly played the whole alert for me (possibly for the second time).
Two minutes after the sound I heard in the distance, the cable TV had the alarm, it sounded just like any other alert that comes over cable TV – short blatting noise repeated at short intervals, text on the screen, and a voice reading the text (except that they made a mistake, they said “2:20 pm to 2:40 pm eastern time” instead of “to 2:50 pm.”
Kind of a nothing burger, really. I had thought it would be unique and not just like every other alert we ever get.
Mine was a soft beep and a text notification. Which was good, I was up on a ladder, painting. Not the raucous squak I was fearing (but, then I always keep my ringer silenced, and just use the vibrate).
So, effects were minimal… ps: anyone have a good recipe using brains?
Don’t know. It was long over before anyone told me. Looking around, especially looking at the news, I suspect we’re now on the planet of dumb people.
