Since practically any flavor of Christianity comes with the Great Commission, it stands to reason that it would spread.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Any one else notice that in the results table, China was not represented? I assume that this means that the test was not administered in China. Since this is such a large an potentially potent country, and since Japan respondents were included, I can only infer that the decision not to administer the test in China was not made by National Geographic; they were probably not allowed to.
I don’t know what’s more pathetic, the dumb fuck or the guy being bested by the dumb fuck.
You have a nice rain forest and all, some pretty beaches with nice women wearing small bikinis, but you know what – I’d be hard pressed to mention a single prominent Brazilian person (outside football) – a scientist, author, painter, composer, music group, philosopher, intellectual or politician or a Brazilian produced movie, invention (yeah ok, Brazilian wax comes to mind…), important Brazilian university or research centre. It is the Americans that out-source to Brazil, not the other way round, it is the Brazilian maids that are cleaning up the mess the Americans can’t be bother to do themselves. etc. etc. It were the dense Americans who walked on the moon, not the educated Danes or intelligent Brazilians. This post is written on an American invented hardware on American programmed software and posted on an American invented Internet, and to finish off, written in English/American. Yeah OK. I think it’s just as fun as the next guy to make fun of the clueless US’ers, and their puritan mores, tenuous grasp of irony and doubtful fashion sense, but really what have either of us going that we are in a position to look down our noses at the thick-as-wood Americans? I expect that if we were anywhere near as ingenious as the dumb-as-chicken Americans, we would talk Portuguese or Danish. But we’re not.
It is a fact that for all their proved stupidity the idiotic yanks still manage to do better that the rest of us. How pathetic does that make us, Brazilians and Danes and Swedes, Rashak, Gaspode?
No, the other number for Israel was actually Saudi Arabia. I thought about choosing it for a moment, because it was in the right region, but I knew Israel didn’t have that much land mass.
19/20, I missed the population one. I knew it wasn’t the smallest number, and I knew we didn’t have more than 1 billion, but I was fuzzy about the other two numbers.
If you guys looked closely, GB scored really close to our numbers in most instances, I think something like 15% knew where Mexico was!
Well I thought it was Von Braun that helped the US go to the Moon, Jewish and European immigrants who won many Nobels for the US, Hindus who make the programming, Brazilian and other nationalities scientists staffing US companies, etc… The USA gave opportunity to these outside brains. It seems native development of brains is lacking a bit…
I think there is a lot of home-grown talent in the US, it comes down to a numbers game. Lets say for instance the per capita education level of Canadians is twice that of the Americans that means there are still five times as many Americans as Canadians that have comparable level of education.
did you know Sikorski helicopters were invented by a Spaniard? Juan de la Cierva, he called them autogiros but couldn’t get financed here. Same story goes for a lot of the people mentioned by RM. It’s the reason I’ve worked in the US… twice. Those new restrictions for foreign students are a worse danger to the US than the economic deficit, if you ask me: brain deficit is bad. Now if the rest of us can get our acts together and stop scaring our best brains abroad…
Rashak is Brazalian, Juan de la Cierva is a Spaniard whom immigrated to England. Sure I’m an idiotic Dane but I fail to see the obvious connection. There are quite a number of more famous men of Spanish origin throughout history to go for rather than the somewhat obscure Juan de la Cierva – though again perhaps it signifies something that you need to hark back 80 years to find a suitable candidate.
Anti-Americanism is great wholesome fun for the whole family, as long as it doesn’t degenerate into an obsession or an obstacle to learn from what is done right in the US. One of the dangers Europeans face is that we should succumb to a culture of excuses and blame everybody but our intelligent self for own failings. If the US has been able to drain your superior Brazilian brains the right question to ask is why that is so when it could have been the Brazilians/Swedes/Spaniards/Danes, seeing as they are so more intelligent, that were draining the American brains (what little there is naturally). Honest self appraisal is always the first step towards any change for the better. It’s quite common to see Americans admit they are thick as wood and dumb as chicken (dio even seem to a certain pride in it). When I see Rashak Mani admit the same of the idiotic Brazilians or The Gaspode of the stupid Swedes or you, Naza, of the dense Spaniards (Greeks?) then we are making progress.
Hey why don’t I take the first step and set a shining example for all to follow: Danes, you’ll be hard pressed to find a bunch of more moronic idiots - so unfathomable dumb they actually think doors opening out towards the street and a tax rate of 72% are good ideas. Yikes…
I’ve admitted some idiotic things about Brazilians sometime ago… but even if I hadn’t that shouldn’t invalidate comments ! We aren’t talking about intelectual honesty here…
Americans have acess to much better education… and most have at least middle school. 11% not knowing where there country is sad ! Poor brazilians have maybe 4 years basic education. Mexicans probably about the same. You have to compare the US to other 1st world countries… and they fare badly so.
Still its quite sad how Americans can be the best and the worst in education… its like having a 3rd world country within the best in the 1st world. I’ve studied in American schools… and the top american students were very impressive. On the other hand you had some people who could barely understand stuff and compared to the “shove the max into their heads” we face in Brazil, american education is relatively easy. (but better… hate our stupid cramming here)
Like Nava said… the brain deficit will hit the US badly… especially since the homegrown material ain’t enough and universities will have to get that lost tuition fees elsewhere.
Was the US in the centre of the map? If so, I think I’d be able to point to it with my eyes closed. The logic is “probably a US test”=“a US map”=“I’m bound to put my own country in the middle”=“the US is… there!”
But I’d suck in general. Though I do know where Sweden is. Albiet, for the benefit of everyone else, I think it should annex terrirotry until the shape of the country spells the name
FTR, 19/20, religion question. My geography major failed me, apparently. I believed Islam to be the largest religion(when unpartitioned). I guess I still did better than 90% of the general population, but it still cost me many thousands of dollars
Last time I studied geography was 25 years ago, and the world map looked a bit different then. Still, I went 19 for 20 - Yet another person stumbling over religion. Hmm… :dubious:
