Native "Full-Bloods" Left in the Population?

With myself being part Native Canadian (Cree), I wonder if there are any statistics on what percentage of “full-bloods” there are left in the population?

It seems everyone I know (and it doesn’t seem to make a difference which nation they are from, e.g. Ojibwe, Blackfoot, etc.) has some European blood somewhere along the way.

Yes, there are certainly some full blooded indigenous populations out there both in the America’s and Canada. This site gives some scientific DNA studies on the subject, and there are several very good American/Canadian native sights out there.

I happen to live next to one of the most wealthy Native American Tribes in the continental US. The Mashantucket Pequots - zero full blooded - are from Connecticut and Rhode Island, they opporate the largest single casino on the planet called Foxwoods . Check outt here website, and cruise on over to the museum part of the site. Very interesting. I do not live very far from this place and I can tell you it is impressive.

My wife and I have been lifelong advocates for the native cultures of the America’s and Canada. We’ve gone to pow-wows where there were some very influential Native American peoples…One of the most respected (in our opinion) is Russell Means. Heavy Blood there I’ll tell you…He is a great man. I this post helped…

Oh, I know there are still full-bloods out there. I’m just curious as to the percentage of full-blood vs. mixed-blood natives. Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out.

Ah yes, Russell Means. A big part of the AIM. That guy’s got balls. He’s done a lot of good for the Native population.

I know that many tribes have loosened their “membership requirements” so that they’ll accept people who are 1/16 Native American, and sometimes even less.

Many people who identify themselves as Native American don’t look Amerind at all.

I’d guess that only a very small percentage of Native American are full-blooded.
