Natural attraction?

I have long wondered what physical attributes someone who was raised without any societal interferences would find sexually attractive. Does society completely define what one finds attractive to the point where they would not be able to judge w/o it? Or deep down does everyone have a perfect ideal that, if untarnished or unswayed by society, can remain intact into adulthood… a pure sexual attraction and not simply matching someone else’s idea of “perfect”.

Has there been any kind of testing on this? Maybe someone who is blind finally regains eyesight in their teenage years… someone raised in an isolated place with their family then becomes reaquainted with society…what kind of women does that man find attractive, or vice versa?

I think it is safe to say that society has a great impact on sexual standards, but without society, what kind of standards do we naturally create?

Well, if our standards for beauty are aquired through our culture, we sure do get ‘cultured’ young.

Langlois conducted a study in which she collected hundreds of slides of people’s faces and asked adults to rate them for attractiveness. When she presented these faces to three and six month old babies, they stared significantly longer at the faces that the adults found attractive. Overall Langlois timed the babies and discovered that they looked longer at the most attractive men, women, babies, African Americans, Asian Americans, and Caucasians. This suggests not only that babies have beauty detectors, but that human faces may share universal features of beauty across their varied features (Langlois, 1995, p.468).
