Nausea and Sneezing- Related?

Way back in my pregnant days, I sneezed a lot and often had nausea. They somehow became associated with each other in my mind or whatever- for some reason I began to relate the two, probably just because they were both going on so often. I chalked it up to weird pregnancy stuff and never really thought about it for the past 10 years.

The other day, though, I was lying on my back in bed, just getting ready to get up, an I felt a powerful wave of nausea, for about 3 seconds, and then I sneezed. And the nausea was gone, and never returned.

Before you say it, no, I am definitely not pregnant. Trust me on this. Definitely. Not.

Is there any connection between these two things, nausea and sneezing, or is it just me?

I’m familiar with this phenomenon.

It normally happens first thing in the morning before I have eaten. I relate the experience to hunger, and have always considered it as a reminder that my body requires food.

For the avoidance of doubt, I’m not pregnant either.

Since I lack the needed parts, I’m definitely not pregnant either, and I’ve been noticing this at work for the last 3 or 4 years…pretty sure it is related to hunger, as I often skip breakfast and it usually happens in the first 2 hours before I’ve had another chance to eat

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has noticed this. I don’t know about it being connected to hunger… maybe. I should get a grant from the federal government to study this phenomenon. In the meantime, doctors? Anybody know the mechanism behind this?

Bump?

If you can’t come to the Dope anymore to get your useless information, where can you go?

Low blood sugar can cause nausea. I don’t think it causes sneezing, though.

I used to have low blood sugar and this isn’t similar at all. This is just a momentary- two to three seconds?- wave of nausea just before sneezing, and is relieved* by* the sneezing.

After I had my gastric bypass, I developed the strange involuntary reflex of sneezing when I had had enough to eat, but wasn’t really aware of it. If I tried to eat beyond this sneezing signal, I would become nauseated.

I started having this problem when I was pregnant with my first child. I would get nauseous about a minute before I would have to sneeze. It would get to the point where I would feel like I’m about to throw up or sneeze. After sneezing 3 or 4 times I feel fine again. Since having my son I still have this problem and I don’t have low blood sugar and I’m definitely not hungry right now and it just happened to me a few minutes ago. I’m glad to hear it’s not just me.
