Maybe some of our Navy vets can clue me in on this one but how in the world did a container ship manage to ram a US Navy destroyer? I read today that the cargo ship was likely on autopilot which supposedly malfunctioned and was the primary cause of the collision but even if the freighter was purposefully trying to ram the Fitzgerald, how is it possible with a ship that’s more maneuverable, faster, and covered in radar to be taken unawares?
