Many years ago I went to a military collectables show. Someone there was displaying a pink leather book whose cover he claimed was made out of human skin by the Nazis. Of course he could have been lying.
Yes, he could, couldn’t he? And he’d have every reason to, either to boost his reputation as a collector or increase the item’s value if he was selling it. Without reliable provenance and documentation such claims are worthless. The Nazis did horrendous things enough in reality, we have no need to turn to fiction to brand them as monsters.

As far as the soap claims go, no the Nazis didn’t actually produce any. But it wasn’t for lack of trying.
