Stephon Marbury please GO AWAY! I’m sick of hearing about you. I’m sick of seeing you. I wouldn’t take you on my team at minimum wage. Why don’t you go play for the Mavericks? You and Mark Cuban would make a good fit.
What is up with Sacramento? 2 bad losses this weekend. Fire Reggie Theus? Not sure a coaching change can really help this team. But, if they don’t win their next two games, I wouldn’t be surprised. Next week, they’ve got the Lakers in a home and away, so pencil in two losses there.
The Phoenix Suns are also getting ugly quick. Blowing that game against New Jersey just sucked. This week is brutal for the Suns with games on the road back to back against New Orleans and Dallas and then home two days later aganst Utah. They’ll probably go 1-2. That will mean more Stoudemire whining.
What is going on this year? The Raptors fire Sam Mitchell? After an 8-9 start? Ok, not the greatest, but a .500 performance in the first month of the season shouldn’t get the coach fired. I know that NBA players aren’t giving 100% in the early part of the season. The Eastern conference is so weak, I"m sure Toronto will make the playoffs.
Portland vs. Boston on Friday, 12/5, might be the game of the month. Portland is currently on a six game streak and Boston is on a ten game streak. I’m a lifelong diehard Blazer fan. I can’t wait. The Blazers look great this season. The thing that makes this more amazing is that they are the second youngest team in the league and if you take away Raef LaFrentz, who hasn’t played a minute all season, they are the youngest team still.
Actually, they looked OK for about 2 quarters: the first quarter, the first half of the second, and the first half of the fourth. As a fan, I was starting to feel great about this team, but the game against Boston showed that they have a ways to go still. Also, at this point, Przybilla is still a better center than Oden, which is why he still gets more minutes.
The Suns really wanted to blow the game tonight against the Jazz. Thankfully, they didn’t. Leandro Barbosa saves the day.
A very nice win for the Clippers. Baron Davis shows up to play with 32 minutes and 27 points. The Clippers seemed more balanced tonight with more bench play. This is the way the Clippers can win games.
Yeah, the Eastern Conference is so weak that it’s much, much deeper than the West top to bottom, that it’s beating the crap out of the West in head to head, and that all the talking heads are calling this season the Rise of the East or the Shifting of Power or something similar.
Look at the West after the top nine sometime - the bottom half is TERRIBLE this year, and it’s going to lead to some deceptively high win totals for that top half.
One quick take on the game is that (at this point) Portland is worse than the Boston starters but better than the Boston bench. Which on the bright side seems to put them at least in the top half of the league.
I wasn’t watching carefully, but it did seem like Oden’s fouls were legitimate, but just bad luck that a bunch came close together.
Cavs are rolling. They’ve got back-to-back games against Philly this week. Let’s see if they can keep their streak going. Is anyone surprised that Philly isn’t getting it done with Elton Brand? I’m not.
Amare Stoudamire belongs with the rest of the Stoudamires back in the 90s. Mouthy, me-first player who hasn’t won a thing in his career complaining because he’s not getting the ball enough even though he gets more shots than anyone on the team. In fact, everyone on the Suns should shut up because they haven’t won anything, there’s no harm in switching things up and, I don’t know, play some defense for once.
I don’t think the Lakers have what it takes to beat the Celtics or Cavs this year. They’re playing good defense and they’re rebounding the ball well, but if you make Kobe have to score solely from the outside and you play aggressive D they’re a different team.
What do you guys think of the Hawks? Looked really promising to start the season, but very middle-of-the-road now. I’m still holding out for another playoff run, as winning game 6 at home against the Celtics was definitely one of the best, if not the best, sporting event I’ve ever been to in my entire life.
As a fan of Georgia Tech athletics, I think Starbury is a prick, but I can’t stay mad at him for too long considering what he did for GT basketball. In any sport, I’m always partial to players from Tech, from Calvin Johnson (can you imagine if he actually had a decent quarterback throwing to him this year? He still has over 1000 yards!) to Jason Varitek.
I think the fast start they had with AI gave people the wrong impression. This was nothing more than a salary dump to clear cap room. It’s not like Billups couldn’t have continued to play at a high level, look what he’s doing for the Nuggets. I read a stat somewhere that the Pistons are something like 0-5 on Sundays, which leads me to believe that Iverson’s biggest impact has been on the team’s Saturday night plans.
