The NBA will have a lockout next year.
Football will have a battle . The owners want to increase the games to 18. The players are afraid of more injuries. Another lockout looms.
This is good for baseball. The NBA and the NFL could be shut down by lockouts.
Are you fans able to accept this and go along when the owners decide to restart. When baseball was shut down, I was cold to the game for a while.
We are fans, they are businessmen.
The NBA owners need to be saved from themselves. It’s hard to take their hardship claims seriously with the kinds of contracts they gave out for minor talent this past summer.
As an NHL fan, my schadenfreude is unrestrained. I expect the same amount of hand wringing and weeping from ESPN about how its just horrible these two leagues are going to destroy themselves and will never return to their former glory.
HA! I crack myself up.
NFL- Attendance will be down in proportion to how the economy has recovered, no more no less. TV ratings will be as good as ever.
NBA - Attendance will be down, fans will be disillusioned, casual fans will wander away to whatever is shiny, but things will mostly rebound to where they were in a few years. See the NHL, despite what certain four letter words would have you believe, the league returned to average or above average attendance and ratings almost immediately. Current issues with teams are economy driven and a failure to put out a good product in specific markets, problems not unique to hockey.
As a casual NFL fan and complete non-watcher of the NBA, I do not know what the problems the leagues are looking to address are. The NHL had real issues, that were dealt with, it cost a season but the product is arguably better. Is the looming lockout for football and basketball going to result in a better product?
As Red Wing fan, I do not like the results of the NHL strike. I suppose it helped the sport but it was fun to have the best team so often in Detroit.
I do not know what NFL rating are now, but Monday night football was an event a few decades ago. it is now just another game. If it were not for gambling and video games, football would be dropping.
The owners want more money. They want the tax payer to build them a new stadium every 20 years. They never have enough.
The NBA reffing turned me off to the game years ago. It is too annoying to sit through a whole game .
Why? I personally believe they are actually losing tens of millions of dollars per year.
But the reason they give out contracts like that is if they don’t, they will lose players to their competitors. You can end up in the black, but if you only win 20 games a season you will very quickly lose your fan base, television deal, and respect around the league. The market is what it is.
“Clippers.”
Can you imagine how much the Lakers would make?
I can’t stand watching an entire football game. The sport is played far too slowly due to all the commercial breaks. Until they fix that, they won’t have me watching any games.
That’s not a bug, it’s a feature. I’d be happy if they cut the commercials out, but that’s where they make their money.
The NBA is a joke. Pick up games at the Y are played with more heart and class. I hope they have a permanent lock out.
