I still say that Jordan should’ve been called on that play for pushing Russell off of his spot.
Yeah, and then we’d have a had a game 7! I like your thinking.
Now I’m going to gripe: referees talk about how they don’t want to be the ones to decide a game, which is why they tend to swallow the whistle in the final seconds. But that’s bunk, because that is deciding the game! Usually it means the defense mugging whoever has the ball, only rarely does it mean an epic offensive foul like Jordan unleashed, or a blatent travel.
Win or lose, everything the Heat have done for three years is transformed into whatever narrative hack writers wants. That’s really true throughout sports, but it’s even more true for Miami.
I’ve been saying that for a long time.
I thought Jordan got away with that because the refs didn’t notice it, not because they were swallowing their whistles. It’s a foul, but in that sense it falls into that category of crafty veteran plays that smart players know how to get away with.
That’s the double truth, Ruth.
THIS IS IT! CAN’T WAIT! What an amazing finals. I was salty that SA didn’t pull it out in 6 but I won’t complain about an even bigger game 7 on the line.
Its only going to be amazing for me if the Spurs win. Go Spurs!
It’ll be interesting to see how much the Heat play with Wade on the pine - their best lineup statistically is Chalmers, Allen, Miller, James, Andersen (tho a small sample size, they have been off the charts).
Andersen has been totally overmatched against Duncan, though, when they’re matched up, Andersen seems to pick up a foul every 80 seconds.
If the Spurs come out with another Duncan-centric attack, we’ll probably see a lot of Haslem.
Since there’s no tomorrow, I wonder how willing the Heat will be to use the no-point-guard lineups they experiemented with in this series. With James guarding Parker credibly (more so than Chalmers or Cole have), the idea is tantalizing, something like Wade-Allen-Miller-James-Bosh.
Wade back from the dead. Good game so far too.
Spurs are -18 during Boris Diaw’s 13 minutes. Yuck.
Let’s see if the Heat fuck this up. I predict they go to Wade instead of Lebron. Not sure what that will mean.
Well I was wrong.
WOW. Total mental collapse by the Spurs. Pop’s coaching was awful too. How do you have Parker on the bench during that last play. Absolutely abysmal end to a otherwise good game.
At least Pop was a good sport about the loss. Classy guy, but terrible decisions at the end there.
Damn the Spurs for letting me get my hopes up. Can’t believe Duncan missed that hook over Battier and the tip-in. Basketball is a cruel game.
Congrats to Miami. Can’t think of a fan base that deserves a title less or will appreciate it less, but they sure do have the best team at this moment.
Ugh. This should have ended Tuesday night, goddammit.
What, you don’t think running your offense through the turnover machine that has replaced Manu Ginobili was the way to go? This game doubled as the exhibit of human mortality and the ravages of time, as Manu has gone from an electric, unstoppable force to a bumbling, inept liability. That’s what I’ll take away from this Finals: memento mori.
Me too.
Truer words have never been spoken.
Yes, but honestly, the more talented team won.
LOL. That’s great.
But seriously though, what the fuck was he thinking choosing Ginobili over Parker, especially considering Parker won a clutch game in this series already. You might as well put in McGrady.
Hell, I’d have called something for Leonard. That one-handed semi-hook was dropping in all night, he’s a decent passer, and he’s not Ginobili. Parker wasn’t having a strong evening, so it had to be Duncan or Leonard, IMHO.
