NBA Season 2015 - 2016

Well, he thought it was his ex’s apartment (whom he had seen earlier in the day). Maybe he was staying there for the night? That’s what I meant by “it’s not like he showed up unannounced.”

Again, not defending the practice of kicking in doors; wouldn’t a call to the super or perhaps the police have been more prudent?

You are assuming he was welcome or expected there, this is highly unlikely.

Dear Oklahoma City,

Ha ha, fuck you.

Sincerely,

Seattle

So now you’re all Warriors fans, huh? Better remove those anti-California-transplant bumper stickers from your cars! (“Welcome to Washington. Now go home.”)

That Dramond Green is a good kid. It’s good to see him making it to the championship. Maybe this year it’ll be him that pulls Kevin Love’s arm out of its socket in an accidental WWE move. Here’s a clip of his latest accidental contact.

Good one, SenorBeef. It was actually satisfying to see him attempt to karate-flip Steven Adams, only to get DDT-ed and possibly suffer a mild concussion.

That Steven Adams, by the way, impressed the hell out of me. Big, strong player with decent coordination who plays every aspect of the game. Didn’t seem to lose his cool and get too chippy, either, even though there was a lot of grabbing and jostling and outright punching in the games. His only problem was Golden State figured out how to ensure that he would be switched onto guarding the three point line - which when you have guys with such a quick release and accuracy is a bit of a stretch for him to play.

OKC played great but couldn’t tie it off. I personally think this is Westbrook’s fault. He plays too crazy and thinks he has to do it all himself - even if they’re only down two (or whatever the case). Durant played with poise and tried to keep it together - Westbrook seemed to be panicking and as a result forgetting he even had a team playing alongside him. Sure, he puts up great numbers, but they’ll never win a championship unless he settles down.

I’m not surprised that Westbrook would continue to be blamed for the Thunder’s shortcomings, but I think it’s even more insane than it has been in recent years to do it. If you’re Kevin Durant and a 3-1 lead against statistically the best team of all time is slipping away from your team, it’s not poise to be so in control that you don’t have enough influence on the game for your team to win. Meanwhile, on the Westbrook side of things… they’re pretty simplistic numbers, but if 13 assists and 3 turnovers against the defense they were playing against him is him forgetting he has teammates, well, that guy’s pretty fucking good at basketball.

In that series alone, Durant had a 10 for 30 game, an 8 for 24, a 10 for 31 and a 12 for 31. He put up a 7 for 33 against Dallas in the first round. He didn’t have more than 4 assists in any of those games, or any other game in the last series, despite obviously having had the ball in his hands.

Durant played like shit, basically, by the standard of a star. Westbrook was occasionally out of control and otherwise dominated entire games. Durant didn’t dominate for a single quarter. And for all his failure to calm down and his reckless attempts to force the action, vs. Durant’s passivity, Westbrook only turned the ball over 2.5% more frequently in the playoffs (vs. the fact that he got an assist 40% more frequently).

Talking about this series as some kind of indictment of the Thunder is a bit strange. They lost a close road game 7 to a historically great, defending champion, best-record-of-all-time, unanimous-MVP-having team. And to get there they had to beat the 67-win Spurs. That’s not a team that’s far off from winning a title.

Agreed; that it even got to 3-1 is an indictment of the Warriors.

Y’know last season it was easy for me to view Draymond as a super-intense and competitive but lovable goof. He was smart, funny and competed his heart out. But I have to concede that he is looking more and more like a borderline headcase.

His great saving grace from a fan perspective (aside from his talent ) is that he is not a team poison like so many other NBA headcases. He really loves to win more than anything and is willing to subordinate his considerable ego to achieve team success. He’s still smart, funny and the usually the player most invested in the game on either team on any given night. But his little behind the door tirades against Kerr reigning him in and the cheap shots against Adams ( even as a fan I can’t call two back-to-back nut shots “coincidence” ) and others has kinda eroded that lovable goof image. If the Warriors were a 40-win team I wonder what his composure would be like.

Actually I don’t think there is much indictment necessary on either end. The Warriors were put in a hole by a team that a.) matches up better than most with them and b.) had just beat the 67-win Spurs ;). The Warriors, Spurs and Thunder are the class of the league talent-wise ( or at least the west, throw in the Cavaliers for the east ). That any of them pose difficulties for any of the others shouldn’t be a shock. That the 73-win Warriors pulled it out also shouldn’t be a shock - they did win 73 after all. The only team they faced in this post-season that should be embarrassed is Houston, certainly not Seattle or Oklahoma.

They choked away game 6. Game 7 was going to be a win for the Dubs no matter what, it should’ve never gotten that far. You can’t really blame Westbrook over Durant either, they both played horribly at the end of game six. Also: NBA record for most three pointers in a playoff series: 32 by Stephen Curry against OKC 2016, second place? 30 by Klay Thompson against OKC 2016. The previous record was 28, and this is including a couple shitty games by an obviously not at 100% Curry.

I guess you can call game 6 a choke; OKC did have a bad fourth quarter. Luckily for them in game 7 they had a bad third quarter instead :). As chokes go, that game 6 is pretty minor. I know that when I was watching, there wasn’t any point where I thought OKC were huge favorites to win.

I just tend not to like the stories that get told about how the losing team was some kind of disaster. It was a competitive series, OKC played well (they even outscored GSW over the series), and the Warriors ended up winning, which is reasonable since they’re a great team.

I moved from WA to L.A.

Finals Game 1 is tonight in Oakland at 9 PM ET. I’m not really a Cavs fan but I do want Cleveland to win. However, my brain says GS is just too strong and too consistent while the Cavs are susceptible to falling apart if Kevin Love can’t keep his head in the game. And I suspect Draymond Green is exactly the guy to get in Love’s head.

People think just because GS didn’t have an easy time with a hurt Cavs team last year that they are not going to be able to beat them this time around. I disagree, I think Love and Irving make them much worse defensively and they are going to give up more than they contribute. I can’t root for the Cavs, nobody should have such an easy trip to the finals as they’ve had. Detroit, Atlanta, Toronto… every single play off team in the West would be in the finals right now if they faced those three teams.

The Raptors were a much better team this year than the Rockets, Grizzlies, Mavs or Blazers – and, not that it’s that great of a measure, were 6-2 against those 4 teams this year.

The West is tough because of the top teams, not the rank and file.

I’d say you’re right about Love, at least when he’s mentally checked out. But when he’s hitting shots and pulling down boards, he’s definitely a plus. On Irving, however, I cannot agree with you. He’s not a lockdown defender, but his ability to get to the rack will be one of the greatest factors for Cleveland. It will be interesting to see who defends him for GS. It’s not unusual for Klay Thompson to guard PGs who pose a serious offensive threat.

If Cleveland can hold Steph & Klay to 20 points and they still lose by 15, they’re in even more trouble than I thought.

Specially since Lebron, Kyrie and Love all did quite well, at least on offense.

Seriously, listening to morning radio the talking heads were going on about Cleveland’s missed assignments on defense and I thought, um…they only scored 89 points. Ain’t gonna beat GS scoring 89, I don’t care how good your defense is.

If I were a Cleveland fan I would not be worried. Game 1, no biggie. Would be problematic to be down 0-2, though.
