NBA Trade Deadline thread

Most of the players moved at the deadline have had a game with their new teams, and the big pieces almost all appear, after one game, to have been good moves for everyone involved.

Sessions puts in 17 points and dishes 9 for the Lakers.

McGee puts in 15 and 7 rebounds, including the game winner.

Nene puts in 22 and 10. He is as good as advertised and the Wizards actually looked like a competent team. Granted, it was vs. the Nets and Deron Williams got ejected in the 3rd quarter, but the Wizards have to take all the breaks they can get.

Turiaf gets released from Denver and picked up by Miami.

Bogut did not play.

He may not play again this season. Since the Warriors are making no effort to win this season, they have no reason to rush him back.

I still really have no idea whether the Warriors have some ultimate plan in mind. But after reading Bill Simmons’ article about the Warriors, it seems making inexplicable trades is somewhat of a tradition for them.

The Blazers traded for Mehmet Okur, but waived him and picked up J.J. Hickson instead.

The plan is building around Curry and Bogut, which would be a great start to a contender if they were healthy or come back near 100%. It’s a huge risk and they might end up with a Roy/Oden situation, but the team they had was going nowhere anyways and having your stars miss a season and then come back the next year when you have a lottery pick to pair with them can lead to quick success.

Curry and Bogut are a good start if they’re healthy, but I don’t think Golden State has a lot of extra money to build a team around them. It looks to me like they are scheduled to pay $9 million to Andris Biedrins, $10.2 million to Richard Jefferson, $12.7 million to David Lee and $13 million to Bogut next year. By my math, that’s almost $45 milion and the salary cap should be around $58 million. And it might be hard to re-sign Curry when his contract expires two seasons from now.

WOW! What an article! Shit, they are like the Clippers but accidentally bad instead of purposefully bad. No wonder they booed. I thought a few years ago the sale of the Warriors from the notoriously bad Cohen was going to turn things around, and now…I just don’t know. I feel for my friend, who comes from the Bay area and has been a lifelong Warriors fan. I should send him some flowers
