I actually had Florida Gulf Coast. Not much else to speak of, but I did have that.
I don’t reckon having 12s Oregon and Ole Miss is any great shakes, as both were woefully underseeded.

Not to mention that 12 beating 5 is one of the most common upsets. I always take two 12s every year.
A Men’s 16-seed will within the next 5 years!
Southern came pretty damn close against Gonzaga.
Gonzaga is the most consistently overrated team in NCAA basketball. They’re like the Reid-McNabb Eagles: they win a ton of regular season games, beating up on their own weak [conference], but they crumple when it really counts.
They’ve made the Sweet 16 only 5 times in 16 tries, and only won one of those games. They produce zero viable NBA talent, save for John Stockton and that was 30 years ago. They’re in a pretty weak bracket this year, and they’re still not making the Final Four. I don’t even think they’ll get past Wichita State today.
Told ya.
Wichita State 76, Gonzaga 70.
This was a game where both teams were desperately trying to beat each other from behind the 3-point arc. The only reason Gonzaga was even in this game was offensive rebounds and a large disparity in free throws. I’ll give them credit, Olynyk is a hell of a player, but the fact is they are just not a championship caliber team, and they never were. I would have only given them a 5 or 6 seed at best.
Too many people got dazzled by their record, but they got that record by playing nobody of consequence.
Does anybody else get the giggles every time they hear “The Shockers”? I’d feel a lot better if someone else admitted to it too.
Olnyk looks like he should be fronting a heavy rock band.
Shocking. Positively shocking. (Not really.)
“The greatest team in the history of basketball (at our school).” -Coach Mark Few
I live among these obnoxious Zag fans. They dominate the local media and they’re completely delusional, pretending that going undefeated in their weak little conference is the same as going undefeated in any other conference. Oh well, at least they will have their memorabilia of this historic season: a #1 Seed t-shirt and a #1 Ranking t-shirt. :smack:
BTW. I heard that there’s a new bar opening near Gonzaga. It’s called “Fews” but you can’t get drunk there. You have to leave after two rounds.
I don’t know why the national media forgot that Gonzaga is and always will be a mid-major. They might be the Duke of mid-majors, but they’re still a mid-major. The quality wins they had, which supposedly justified their #1 ranking and tourney seed? Those teams went 0-6 in the tournament. They get to one Elite Eight, and that’s enough to keep them in the consciousness of sportswriters who love an underdog story, and who vote them #1. Miami fans should be pissed, because that should have been their #1 seed.
To be fair, we should also remember that in their last five tourney appearances, Georgetown has lost to a double-digit seed:
2008: Lost as a #2 seed to #10 Davidson.
2010: Lost as a #3 seed to #14 Ohio.
2011: Lost as a #6 seed to #11 VCU.
2012: Lost as a #3 seed to #11 NC State.
2013: Lost as a #2 seed to #15 Florida Gulf Coast.
But then, Big Least teams have been dreadful this tournament.
Well, that was fun! Go Ducks!! Not really seeing the party continuing against Louisville, though…
FGCU! First ever 15 seed to make the Sweet 16. I have some affection for them (above and beyond the Cinderella thing) since Enfield was an Assistant Coach at FSU.
Think UCLA is already looking up his agent’s number?
It could be worse, they could be in the NIT
