May have our first major upset in 0.4 seconds

ETA: Well there went a bunch of my brackets.

Thank goodness I only had the Cyclones winning one game. ND survived a close one that would have really put a hurt on my bracket.

I had them making the final four.

ETA - Yea, a ND loss would have hurt as well. Have them making Elite 8.

Baylor is keeping it close too. Gerogia St might pull off the next upset.

Lost first 2 games, and ISU in the final 4. I have broken my personal highly contested record for earliest bracket death.

2 seconds from the SECOND #3 to fall. Luckily I have Baylor one and done this year.

Georgia St. made a 3 point shot from 10,000 feet out with 3 seconds left to sink Baylor and my bracket. (Grumble grumble grumble, mutiny mutiny mutiny).

Hm, I had Baylor in the Sweet 16. Now, I’ve got SMU going to the Elite 8 and they’re getting all they can handle from UCLA, who has something to prove as nobody thought they deserved to even be in the tournament.

I’m really hoping that the close games and upsets mean Duke will be the first #1 seed to lose in the round of 64.

I felt bad for Lafayette. Because of Vegas betting it will never happen, but I wish there was a mercy rule for games like this.

Arkansas escapes defeat by Wofford, a school of 1600 students.

Damn, that was too close for Arkansas. Bobby Portis needs to wake up ASAP. He’s been off his game since the SEC final against Kentucky. Wolford nearly took this one. Ark has to play better to have any chance against N Carolina.

So close to either Harvard or Wofford being in the Sweet 16.

It was a 41 point spread. I bet that’s less than the average spread in 1v16 games.

Here’s the worse part. If all of my teams scored one more basket (in regulation) I would have some good looking brackets. And I thought I was brilliant having Ole Miss in the Sweet 16 when Georgia State won.

Guess I can just enjoy the tournament now and not worry about who wins and loses.

The SEC had a tough first round. Started with 5. Arkansas and Kentucky are the only teams that survived the first round. First Round results by conference
SEC (5): Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Kentucky, Ole Miss

I always look for 5/12 and 4/13 upsets in setting brackets, but I lucked into the UAB upset. I wanted one 3/14 upset and that was the only I could even halfway consider after watching some of Iowa State. UAB I knew nothing about.

3 of my brackets have red, but all sides are still alive.

No number one seed has ever lost to a sixteen. But how many number one seeds have ever lost to the eight/nine seed winner in the next game?

In 2013, Gonzaga–a number one seed–barely won their first game and lost their second game to Wichita State. I could be wrong but I believe Wichita State was ranked around eight or nine seed.

In 2000, a #8 seeded UNC beat #1 Stanford in the South region, and slaughtered A LOT of brackets in the process (I recall MANY had the Cardinal going all the way to the Final Four, if not also winning the whole kit and caboodle).

ETA: And also in that same tourney, #1 Arizona lost to #8 Wisconsin in the West region.

The Conference of Champions is 7-0 and counting! Tremble, oh ye Badgers!!

Congrats to UNC. Their game with Arkansas was really fun to watch. Those two teams are so evenly matched. They share similar offensive strategies. Mostly man to man defense. I did see UNC go into the zone a few times in tonights game. But it was obvious UNC had the edge throughout the game.

Arkansas just couldn’t get ‘er done this time. Arkansas did get some badly needed tournament experience. First appearance since 2008. If Qualls and Portis comes back next year we should have another run at the Big Dance. Regardless, I am encouraged by the depth that Arkansas’ bench showed. They were scoring even when the starters sat down. Mike Anderson has built a solid team and I’m looking forward to quality Hawg Ball in the upcoming years.

Now, I will follow Kentucky. The last SEC team standing. They can make history with an unbeaten season.
