Neandertal and modern humans Interbred

From this link:

“Technical objections to the idea that Neandertals interbred with the ancestors of Eurasians have been overcome, thanks to a genome analysis method described in the April 2014 issue of the journal Genetics. The technique can more confidently detect the genetic signatures of interbreeding than previous approaches and will be useful for evolutionary studies of other ancient or rare DNA samples.”

This would certainly explain some people I’ve met over the years…

Pretty sure there’s already a recent thread on this.

“But I breed with just ONE Neanderthal and they call me …”

I likes me some modern wimmins!

Hey, maybe it was the Neandertal men who were super sexy and got all the human women! Nerdy human sitting around with his camp fire and stuff when some Neandertal kicks sand in his face and makes off with his best girl.

Only to be shot in the back with an arrow.

So this jocks vs nerds thing has been around a lot longer than I thought…

My thread was about a different article though.

What’s new here is not that they interbred. I haven’t read the article yet, but from the abstract it looks like the authors have shown that the interbreeding occurred not just after separation of non-African humans from Africans, but actually in Eurasia. Their technique also works from sampling fewer genomes.

As usual, the public-consumption news release is…poor.

“Can I buy a vowel, Vanna, an 'A”?"
