Nebula Award Nominees (novel)

The nominees for the Nebula Award for novel have been announced. How many have you read? If you’ve read some of them which one is your favorite and why?

Poll to come.

I’m afraid I haven’t read any of them.

I tend to prefer Hugo winners to Nebula winners, but this isn’t to say that I’ll never pick up a Nebula winner or nominee, it’s just that I don’t always get books when they first come out. I almost never buy new hardcover books.

Wow. I’ve only ever heard of one of these authors: China Miéville. I haven’t read Embassytown but I did read his novel Kraken and loved it. I have to say that none of the titles grab me. Guess I’ll head over to Amazon or GoodReads and see what they’re about.

Just a note, the author of God’s War is Kameron (not Cameron) Hurley.

McDevitt has been publishing a series of good hard SF novels over the past decade. I really loved his universe, where FTL travel is not very fast and life is rare. Good characters, too. But he made some changes in Cauldron a few years ago, including solving the central mystery, that put an end to that. His current series is much the same in concept.

N. K. Jemison’s first novel, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms was spectacular; this is the third in the same series.

I’ve read a reasonable amount of short fiction by Genevieve Valentine.

Yeah, I’m afraid to admit I haven’t read any of them, and the only author I’ve read at all is Mievelle.
