Necessity of De-Trumpification, and to what extent?

I don’t know what the correct move is politically or morally, but if I could never again hear that voice or look at his stupid orange face, or have to watch people drool on his shoes, I could die happy.
There is nothing I’d love more than for him, his arrogant lickspittle lackies, and all his garbage disapeared from the of the earth. I don’t want to see him, I don’t want to hear or hear about him (unless it’s him in prison) I don’t want his name or his garbage projects in the government or the public eye.

I’d like to see him and all his works wither away into the sewer from which he came.

Not gonna’ happen but I can dream.

I tend to think no. Trump is such an obvious asshole. Once he’s gone, the Republicans are going to spend the next twenty years pretending he was never a real Republican. They’ll claim that they’re the party that can rebuild America after the mistakes of the Trump administration.

To go a bit further, I think they’ll also lean into the incomprehensible, Svengali-style, cultic nature of MAGA, and how it hijacked their party, and they had no choice but to go along, to ameliorate it from the inside, and so forth.

It’ll play to the more thinking people in that party, probably seriously irritate the die-hard MAGA types (who will either sit politics out, or grudgingly vote GOP anyway), and annoy everyone else.

At that: do you believe that’s 100% true?

Do I think that’s what happened? Absolutely not.

What I think happened is that they were generally anti-Trump in the lead-up to the 2016 election, but once they saw that he had some sort of weird pull over the MAGA types and was effectively directing the GOP ship whether they liked it or not, they all self-servingly jumped on board and started licking boots for all they were worth, denying that they were ever even against him at all. Look at notorious toady Ted Cruz; Trump has insulted him multiple times, in ways that would have caused deadly duels in bygone ages, and yet Cruz still is a craven sycophant. And I’ll bet when Trump’s out of office and the winds turn against him, we’ll hear Cruz talk about how awful Trump was.

That’s the thing- the GOP politicians have ZERO spine or principles beyond whatever gets/keeps themselves in power, and it’s breathtakingly self-interested. Doesn’t matter what it is, there seems to be no line too far ideologically that they won’t ignore if it gets themselves ahead personally.

So yeah, when Trump is out of office/dead they’ll pile on about how awful he was, etc…

Not all, but certainly most.

The ones that don’t have no future in politics. Notice Liz Cheney. John McCain was dying and had nothing to lose. Then there is Marjorie Taylor Greene.

MTG was (is?) a true believer who finally realized that Trump has no principles and doesn’t care about anyone or anything other than himself.

My opinion is that Greene saw that the HMS Trump is starting to sink and she wanted to be one of the first rats to get off the ship.

She supported Trump when that benefited Marjorie Taylor Greene and now she opposes Trump because it benefits Marjorie Taylor Greene.

She does seem smarter than she looks. Maybe the glow is starting to fade in her district.

You don’t have to be very smart to see through Trump’s facade.

Perhaps MTG sees that the people in her district are starting to see el donald for what he is. She is positioning herself to get in front of that. She hopes to be President Greene someday.

Which is exactly what I’m talking about; there’s no ideological stand, it’s all what’s personally advantageous in the moment.

Rand Paul (Yeah, i know, he is a little…off, but he is at least his own man), and Thom Tillis have voted against trump.

In the House- Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson. Too few, I will agree, but there are a few with backbones.

She helped push Liz Cheney out and then promptly decided to squeeze her hooves in Liz’s shoes.
