Even with brand-new threads, most of the readership typically isn’t going to be the OP and others who’ve replied. Except for topics that are both very personal and very specific, I think it makes most sense to write for a much bigger audience. I often don’t care at all if an OP ever sees my comments.
I love how I started a thread about a trend that is annoying me (not one particular poster) and a lot of people are taking the opportunity to throw pot shots at me. I don’t care what anyone thinks of me, I AM a more valuable member than someone who wastes times joining only to revive one thread. Or someone who revives a thread about dress shopping that was time sensitive. So, if you don’t like me you’re more than free to NOT read my posts. I’m not holding a gun to anyone’s head. If you have a problem with me being a member talk to a moderate about it. I don’t care if I haven’t been here as long as others. I have the right to complain about things I don’t like. The DOPE is FAR FROM PERFECT. I’m sorry I’m not in love with it like many sheeps… Posters (yeah that’s the ticket) are. If you can’t complain about the DOPE and the way it’s run (even once) many of you aren’t as liberal as you think.
So, would it be ok if a poster from '99 were to complain about zombie threads in the same way the OP does? I’m sure there are a few that agree with her.

I don’t think most of the ones taking potshots were serious (I wasn’t), but it did seem strange for a “new” member to complain about other new members’ worth. And honestly, this subject has been done to death (no pun intended) already by various members with different join dates.

The Dope decided to enable that feature to try to bring in more people and that is exactly what it is doing. The ones that bring back the zombies are just a side effect but a happy side effect because it still brought in a new poster.

Share buttons are for sharing, that is people have to go to that thread, click the share button and then post it somewhere that people will see it. The answer has already been given. Resurrected threads come from google indexing the board and people searching for specific keywords and not noticing or caring how old the thread is.

Long time lurker, first time poster here. I just wanted to point out that in my experience, many forums frown on creating a new thread when there is an existing one, no matter how long ago the OP created it, and will merge the post into that thread.
So, I don’t think new posters are always trying to be annoying, just used to different internet etiquette

And many others don’t. Many lock old threads. Many have posters that bitch and whine no matter what you do or what the “official” policy is. Variety makes the world go round.
