Need a movie identified - Help my wife retain her sanity...

My wife was doing her normal thing of watching old movies the other day, when I made an idle comment (I do this a lot) about a movie that I’d seen once. Normally she just nods and ignores me, mostly because my idle comments tend to be about things she has no interest in. However, in this case I asked about a movie, a novel enough comment on my part that it caught her attention.

She was watching some Cary Grant film festival. Cary Grant being really my only competition for her affections. I tend to win out since he’s been dead for a long time, but I still feel the need to remind her that I’m here when she’s seeming being charming. Can’t be too careful…

Anyway, I was telling her about a movie of his that I saw that I thought was pretty funny. I couldn’t remember a lot about it, other than he is trying to woo a girl (imagine that) and in pursuit of that he hires a band to follow him for the day so he can serinade her. Unfortunately she eludes him, and he winds up stuck with the band. They follow him everywhere, and play whenever he looks like he’s about to do somthing. The scene I was describing had the leading man discussing things with a friend in a sauna, and when he gets up to leave, the band follows him, playing and and wearing the standard sauna towell.

Now here is the problem. She remembered that movie, but couldn’t think of what it was called, and wasn’t even all that sure that Cary Grant was the leading man in it. While normally this kind of thing falls into the “things I don’t care about” category, its been driving her nuts, leading to her to try to look up every movie ever made in an attempt to find out what movie this may be.

Since aside from this inexplicable Cary Grant obsession, she’s really a pretty nice person, I figured I’d just ask here, before she gets frustrated and starts blaming me for starting the problem to begin with. Can anybody identify this movie?

I was thinking it might be When You’re In Love, but… I’d have to see it again. Ugh. Tell your wife she now has company… :stuck_out_tongue: If/when I figure it out, I promise to post it.

Maybe if you learned to be more concise, your wife would stop ignoring you.

Cary Grant Reviews

She’s actually gotten pretty good at feigning attention when she’s not…rather like I do when she discusses where she’d like to put whatever window treatment.

However, the database of Cary Grant movies was neat, but she says she was unable to find it there. Now she’s looking into other leading men, making the investigational waters even more murky, but having no greater luck.

Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn in Love in the Afternoon.

Won’t somebody at least tell me what I’ve won? A lovely parting gift?
