Need a new burr mill coffee grinder...

My Mr. Coffee burr mill coffee grinder went tits up and I’m having trouble finding a new one. The one Yahoo store that seems to have them never sent me one (and also never billed my card) and won’t respond to emails. So I need a different one.

What I liked about the Mr. Coffee one was that it was small. The only one we saw at Bed, Bath, and Beyond was friggin ENORMOUS.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, small, currently-available burr mill coffee grinder?

I’m on my second Krups Fast Touch. The first one lasted 18 years, but that one was made in France and quite heavy. The new one is made in China and weighs about half as much as the first one. However, I’ve been using it daily for six months and it seems to be holding up well.

Depending on your notion of small, I recommend the Baratza Maestro if you’re going to use it for drip or press pot. Refurbs are available from the manufacturer at a good price: http://www.baratza.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=RFRB

That’s a blade grinder. **OpalCat **wants a burr grinder. Like this.

I bought mine from Starbucks more than five years ago. It’s still working like a charm.

What’s the qualitative difference between the two types?

The quick and dirty answer is that a blade grinder chops up the beans resulting in inconsistency of the size and shape of pieces while a burr grinder crushes the beans resulting in a more uniform grind. A uniform grind makes better coffee.

ETA: Here’s a good article explaining it more in depth – and with pictures!

I have a Bodum blade grinder that’s going on 15 years old now, so you might look at their burr grinders. A quick look on Google shows that Capresso and Krups get excellent reviews.

I’ll second Brown Eyed Girl. You want this one: http://www.capresso.com/prod_grinders_inf.html

Heck, I want that one!
Well, actually I want this one, but I can’t afford it.
