I’ve watched it in it’s entirety already plus I’ve seen the reruns several times, but I just started it again.
I think this is only the second time I’ve seen the pilot. I’m glad they replaced fake Juliet (Lassie’s partner), I didn’t like her, I don’t even remember her from the show. Real Juliet shows up in the next episode. One thing this show does is some how brought together some amazing couples. That is, Shawn and Gus have an amazing chemistry together, as do Juliet & Lassie and Juliet & Shawn and Lassie & Shawn. The whole ensemble is fun to watch. And anytime Woody shows up is always good.
Oh, and like I said, you can really see how much extra money was tossed at the show. They’ll have a new Psych office soon, that’s not the same Police Station they use for the rest of the series and there’s plenty of other improvements along the way.
One last thing. Shawn at one point improvised and grabbed a pineapple. From that point on there’s a pineapple in every episode. People make a point of trying to find it. Even if you look at the old threads on Psych here, you’ll find people trying to catch it.
The BBC show “Misfits” - is is very funny, but kind of serious, too (once you get used to the accents and you can understand what the hell they’re saying). It’s basically what “Heroes” should have been if it wasn’t completely stupid.
Lillyhammer is a great show. It’s about a New York mobster who goes to Norway under the witness protection program and has to adjust to a European way of living. I thought it was better than Orange is the New Black which I also liked alot.
I’m sure you’ve seen Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Madmen. If not those are must see shows. The Office is another one you’ve probably seen.
Todd Margeret was pretty good. It’s a short series but Will Arnett was good in it.
Arrested Development is a show most people like, I thought it was ok.
Lost is considered one of the best shows of alltime in case you never watched that.
As the show gets more confident with its silliness, the “clearly not Santa Barbara” thing is exaggerated and put front-and-centre in a few episodes, especially when they’re out on the bay or in a forest.
Guys, pls. reread the OP – I’m looking for light entertainment, so The Wire, Breaking Bad, all police procedurals and serial killers, are specifically not what I’m looking for. Instead, I’m looking for something along the lines of Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars.
Lillyhammer is light comedy in the same sense of Orange is the New Black. I think you would like that one alot. The main character played his role perfect.
The episode from earlier this year where they join some film students making a documentary about searching for Bigfoot is a great example. They are obviously in the Pacific Northwest.
Good suggestion. I thought Freaks and Geeks was great. I wish it had lasted more than one season.
Better Off Ted is really good, I was disappointed when they cancelled it, but it’s probably worth watching what’s on Netflix.
Pushing Daisies is a REALLY good show as well, but it’s not on Netflix. I bought my sister the two seasons for Christmas last year. I will advise anyone who plans to watch Pushing Daisies to watch it in HD or Blu-Ray if at all possible. It’ll add a lot to the experience. Also, since Pushing Daisies has now been mentioned twice in this thread, I’m going to go ahead and say that I didn’t like Dead Like Me. I watched the first, maybe, 3/4 of Season 1. It’s not a bad show and I know a lot of people like it, a lot, it just didn’t click for me. Also, it’s not a light comedy, I really don’t think it’s what Twix is looking for here.
PS, I just watched the second episode of Psych (for the third time), I always forget how funny it is when Shawn meets Juliet for the first time, I literally LOL’d. Actually I always LOL at this show.
Gilmore Girls is still one of my favorites. Bunheads was great, wish it lasted. There are so few fun, lighthearted hour long dramas like those. But I’ll suggest a few you might want to try…(sorry, I can’t check Netflix at this time)
Current shows:
White Collar (FBI, but not typical police procedural)
Necessary Roughness
Older shows no longer on
Joan of Arcadia
Northern Exposure
This doesn’t quite fit your criteria, but I’m mentioning it because these threads tend to drift to “name some TV series on Netflix that are watchable”. With that said, avoid “The Killing”. It has a great premise - a 13-episode series dedicated to following a pair of Seattle detectives trying to solve a murder, which sprinkles in some political intrigue for good measure.
Now - it does that pretty well. The characters are really interesting and well-fleshed out. The main plot itself is well crafted. Some of the side stories are very interesting. But in the end, it fails. Turns out, it’s actually a 2-season storyline - and by the time you figure that out, you also realize they have to pack in 8 episodes of soap opera drama to stretch it out. Then you realize that the entire two season stretch takes place over about 4 weeks, making a number of the storylines completely unbelievable.
To go off on a different angle, Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spinoff Angel are all pretty fun. I also enjoyed Ghost Whisperer and Medium - more drama than camp and based on murder-solving psychic stuff but fairly entertaining and not too brainy, I thought they were pretty good for end-of-day brain wind-down before bed stuff.
