I need to see my little nephew’s face in the morning when I wake up. I’ve done a little searching but the SD is always the source for the best skinny. I’ll spend between 40-100 bucks I suppose. What are the primary features that define the price: The FPS, the resolution? I’ll need a microphone too though I don’t mind going seperate unless I can use the microphone alone. Any ideas on how to go about choosing a webcam would be much appreciated. Thanks.
What kind of computer & what operating system? Everytime I get a new OS, I have to get a new webcam…sigh
2.4ghz pentium using WinXP.
The webcam by creative labs. Inc. with usb, microphone and setup cd is a good buy at around $50. i use a win2k OS, but this camera supports xp as well. the picture is color, with resolution about 640 by 450 - normal for TV in the USA. The installation is easy- the tricky part is running net meeting software, and calling other computers, i use the I P address to ring other computers. Also the live two way feed of sound and video is very poor- but i think my frame rate is set to high perhaps 3 fpm might work better. anyway you may have, or find a better software solution. Good luck- my experience with webcams is limited but so far it’s no plug&play panacea. p.s. if money is no object check out netcams starting at round $300 per camera, but each camera has a web address you can access from anywhere, so i hear.
I use Creative’s Webcam Pro. It has an auto-focus 75 mm to infinity lens, still image capture up to 640x480, live video capture up to 30 frames per sec at 352x288 resolution. Up to 15 frames per sec at 640x480 resolution It’s USB port or powered USB hub compatible and comes with a mic too. It works as a destop or clips onto your laptop. Works great for me and I’ve used it a lot, and for $40, you can’t go wrong.
one thing I highly recommend is that it includes a mic. I bought a cheapy without a mic a year ago, and that was just too inconvenient.
Wow 15 fps at 640 by 480? Doesn’t that practically look like live video? Not like the “staccato” stuff I’m used to seeing?
