Need advice for New Monitor

I have been piecing together a nice gaming system over the last couple of years and have arrived at one of the last pieces I need. (Considering buying a higher quality cable modem than the one TW provides and will be looking at a new wireless router sometime in the future.) My current monitor is a ViewSonic 19" CRT. It takes up a huge amount of space on my desk (although my desk was designed for CRTs so not a massive problem.) and it is hard to see things in some games even with the Brightness maxed out. And it is just getting a bit long in the tooth.

So I need a new monitor, but I’m not up on what is and isn’t worth getting. And the various connection options are completely new to me. I’ve looked at Tom’s Hardware, but they don’t do as well with their monitor guides as they do CPU and GPU guides IMHO. So I decided to ask here.

I have an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970, an i7-4790K CPU, with 16 gigs of RAM. I haven’t even started trying any overclocking, that will come when I have the time to spend on tweaking things. But even stock, I know I can push things higher than my current settings, if I have a better monitor.

I have picked out a couple from Tom’s that seem to have a good balance between features and price, but I’m not sure. And I’m ignorant enough that I have a hard time looking through NewEgg to compare. The two I have been thinking about:

[li]BenQ XL2430T 24”[/li][li]AOC G2460PG 24" G-SYNC[/li][/ul]

Are either of these good monitors for the price? Are there better models with different features out there to look for? Is something like G-Sync worth having?

Gsync is a game-changer, so I’ve read. If you’re spending the extra for a 144 Hz monitor, go for it. But with a 970 you might look at the 21:9 3440x1440 monitors.

Always get the very best monitor you can afford.
