Which, again, strikes me as complete cowardice. If you are going to do something risky, either do it, or don’t. Breaking the set out rules of this board simply so that one doesn’t endanger one’s precious screen name with bad thoughts is simply vile cowardice.
Look, if you’re unsure as to whether a certain thing you post might be against the rules or not, check with a moderator. People do that, and we say “yea” or “nay” to certain links or phrases or whatnot. And even if we won’t allow it, we won’t ban you for the mere suggestion.
If you want to argue with a moderator as to whether they did something wrong, start a Pit thread. Please, for the love of the IPU, show me anyone that started a rational discussion of a moderator action and got banned. Just today, I can reference three threads in current circulation that question moderator actions, and for which no participant has been banned. The only reason we’ll ban someone for arguing with us is if A) they cannot post their arguments in the correct forum; B) they cannot refrain from continuing their actions while the debate goes on*; C) they act like a complete jerk in their discussion of the issue (saying, “I think Coldfire was wrong” is one thing- saying, “Coldfire is a fucking Nazi bastard” is another); or D) they break other rules in the course of the debate (bringing in socks to support them).
Y’know why a lot of people get banned? 'Cause they throw off a flippant and pissy remark without thinking about it. But a lot of people on this board do that. The thing is, the people who get banned are the people who can’t admit that they were wrong. They’re the people who must argue the point, must prove that they were absolutely justified no matter what, and are never willing to take a step back and apologize, accept responsibility, and let the matter drop. No, they must continue to fight, to shout, to argue, because to admit a mistake would apparently be a fate worse than death.
I’d like to say that pisses me off. But it doesn’t. It just makes me goddamned sad that some people can’t see the world except through “I am infalliable” glasses.
You’re an ass. Just look at the way you went nuts over a simple fact.
I didn’t say I did those things. But I understand them.
And some asswipe will come on in a minute, now that you have given them the green light, and ask for my departure.
I’m sorry already that I made that (100% true) remark.
Whoops! Another Surfola spoofer? You just fucked up, Poirot. Big Time. We’ll be deactivating that account shortly. No doubt you have others but, we’re content to whittle away at 'em. You cannot win in the long run.
So yet another thread that got turned into a “sexy Zette” topic gets hijacked. Sheesh, you guys! Cut me a break! I’ve been on here for years and finally someone has a nice dirty fantasy about me, and you gotta ruin it with your board nonsense??
::gets tapped on the shoulder and someone whispers in her ear::
Oh…this thread WAS about sock puppets? Carry on then…
Zette
::slinking off to find her Santa suit and whip::
Oh, yeah, and I’m having fun doing it.
That’s what gets to you the most, isn’t it?
You never seem to have fun here. You’re always barking and sputtering and being bitchy. Then you don’t feel loved enough? Gee, I wonder why.
Uh-huh. I went nuts. Yep, that’s why I publicly called for your banning. That’s why I threatened you with banning. That’s why I stated that you’re a fuckwit and an asshole.
Whoops. No, wait, I didn’t say anything like that, now did I? I was perfectly willing to engage you in debate. And then you call me an ass. Geez, love the perspective.
And I didn’t accuse you of doing those things, did I? I mean, I could have pointed out that you use the same spoofing site that most of our socks use, and that you were red flagged as a sock from the moment you appear both by dint of title, IP, and OP. But I didn’t.
I’m sorry for you as well, that you are so immature as to see an attack in every disagreement, that you assume the mods immediately kill off opposition, and that you must live a twisted, stunted, and most of all, cowardly life by crusading against something no one else takes offense at, and not even being able to do so under your real name.
John Corrado’s my name. It’s the only name I use around here. When I choose to post something, I accept the consequences of what I say, even if it means getting my ass handed to me in a debate, or yelled at by other posters.
I stand corrected.
Actually, I’m perched. It’s one of those ergo-stools.
Here’s my part of the debate: Feel free to comment on the ideas without attacking me. I will be pleasantly surprized, I assure you.
So, the reason people use socks is…
Say! I just realized that you’re right. All people who use socks are losers. Like Ed/Cecil, and Czarcasm on the Roundtable board, and … let’s see, didn’t Lynn use a sock once? And a couple others, as I recall. Even sainted UncleBeer on the sock forum.
(There’s YOUR moral dilemma- How do you call all those mods names and then face them at the next reindeer club meeting?)
Oh, yeah, and there’s about a couple of dozen SDMB posters who use socks at OpalCat’s forum. I guess they are “jerks” to you too? Lucky for them she doesn’t have that jerk rule.
Gee, ever notice her forum has no rule against socks and there also isn’t a “sock problem”? Might be worth looking into.
Quick question-I was stuck at campus today and I logged into the SDMB from school, so I wouldn’t have to wait until I got home to post. I logged out, but it might show different IPs for me, so I’m sorry.
Guin, simply posting from different IPs isn’t gonna get ya canned. We use IPs to identify our problem children. Some of them have caught on to this fact (after a looong time) and attempt to hide their IPs though spoofers. Thing is, we also know the spoofers they use. Kinda sad, really.
It’s the spoofery and sockpuppetry that’s a no-no, not merely posting from different locations.
