In order to join my schools network I had to install McAfee Antivirus software.
I didn’t delete Trend Micro all the way and while installing McAfee I got the blue screen of death. So I did a system restore to a point before I deleted Trend Micro and installed McAfee. Now when I try to uninstall Trend Micro I get this message:
Antivirus apps work their way so intimately into the operating sysem that if the regular removal methods provided by the manufacturer aren’t working, you’re better off backing up your data and re-installing Windows.
Hopefully, if you’re using the computer manufacturer’s image disc, it doesn’t pre-install the “wrong” AV application. If it does, at least it should be easy to get rid of with the uninstall tools.
If you are comfortable editing the registry you can try removing it there. I had quite a few instances of corrupt Trend Micro installs that had to be removed manually. I had good results, but be prepared to do a total restore if anything goes wrong.
I did a systems restore again. Removed Trend Micro with Vista’s uninstaller. Installed McAffee and got the blue screen again. I tried to uninstall Trend Micro using the third method on their website (that I posted in the OP) and then it worked. :dubious:
