My 22 year old daughter’s Verizon Voyager phone was missing 1/31/09 around 2 AM after she left a local restaurant-bar where a band was playing. On the bet it might show up with lost and found I kept calling the restaurant, and with no success finally gave up and on Wednesday 2/4/09 at 8 PM and called Verizon had her number switched over to an old Motorola Razr I had laying around until the new Voyager could be shipped to her from the insurance company.
Approx 4 hours later around midnight that she calls me in a panic as there are all these hip hop songs (which is not her taste in music at all - alternative-electronica is her game) playing when someone tries to dial her (her friends have told her this) They are not dial tones on her phone but “ring back” tones the thief has purchased (and charged to her number) that play on the dialer’s end when they would dial my daughter.
I called Verizon the next day the afternoon of 02/5/09 and the Verizon rep told me he would take the accumulated ring back tones off the phone as a courtesy, but anything else would have to wait until I got the bill as he didn’t have access to other charges.
So I get my bill see the ring back tones are charged to it under “data” and call Verizon thinking that he did not do as he said, and I will call and get them removed. I got a hold of rep and after reviewing the bill for about 2 minutes, she comes back and basically tells I’m full of shit. She points out that on 2/05/09 at around 2PM, which is about I called the Verizon rep to get them removed the first time, that someone has put them back on the phone (assumedly my lying daughter) but for whatever reason they have not been charged. My head is spinning at this point.
I ask the rep if she is seriously asserting that the songs the thief put on the phone when it was out of my daughter’s possession, and which my daughter was in a panic to get removed as she didn’t want her pals thinking that reflected her taste in music, that my daughter has come back to the table and is now trying to re-load those songs cause now she loves hip-hop so much?
The rep begins speaking to me as if I’m a slow child and explains that “the bill doesn’t lie” and that there is no way those same songs go back on the phone 2/5/09 without someone putting them one, and as the thief was locked out the evening of 0204/09 it could only be my daughter. I ask what these things on 02/05/09 are all about as they don’t even seem to be charged and she explains that these attempts by my daughter to put the hip-hop songs back on the phone. My head is exploding at this point and we go round and round for almost 20 minutes and she keeps insisting the bill timing doesn’t lie and that someone with access to my daughter’s phone (the Razr at this point) is trying to put these songs back on the phone, Since the thief is locked out as of 8PM 02/04 it can only be my daughter.
We agree to disagree and she says they will “look into it”. I’ve posted the bill detailing below. Can any cell bill savvy doper help me on this? I am confused. ’ wondering if the 02.05 activity was something the first rep might have done when he was trying to remove the songs. In thinking about it the timing for when I called him lines up almost perfectly with these 02/05 mystery charges she claiming are my daughter’s attempts to get then back on the phone,
