Hello all,

I am trying to quote a German drawing for US based company and need hel p with German translation.

The drawing call for a material as

Verzelltes PP ww. PE.

Can someone please tell me the meaning of PP ww. PE
Based on my experience PP (polypropelyne) and PE (Polyethelene) but not sure what is ww. means?

Best I can come up with is that it might mean Wechsel Wirkung - interaction, correlation, reciprocity, interdependence, correlation, etc.

Does that seem like the right thing, given context?

Native German speaker here. I had never heard the word “verzellt” before, and even after some research I’m not entirely sure what it means.

But luckily that wasn’t your question. I think the “ww.” stands for “wahlweise”, so “PP ww. PE” means “either PP or PE”.

Could “verzellt” be a Swiss German word? The articles in the German Wikipedia using the word all seem to be about Swiss people.

Is that for certain not a typo? And the drawing is for certain not, in, say, Dutch rather then German?

The first couple of Google hits for “Verzellung” (a noun “verzellt” could be derived from) are technical documents in German, so I think it is an actual word.

“foamed PP or PE” - i.e. polypropylene foam or polyethylene foam

All instances of “verzellt” in those articles appear to be a spelling variant of “verzählt” (or rather “erzählt”). That’s either the third person singular form or the past participle of “erzählen”, viz. “to tell”.

Sie erzählt
She tells

Er hat erzählt
He has told

That really doesn’t fit the context of the OP.

I’d use “aufgeschäumt” for that. Is that the same as “verzellt”?

“verzellen” seems to be a technical term used in relation to plastics, it is not a common german word. It seems to mean something similar to foamed, but slightly different. I googled a patent that explains “verzellt” as completely closed cells enclosed by evenly-thick walls.

After posting, I realised the correct term in English is “expanded” rather than “foamed”.

I have never seen the word “verzellt”. However I googled and found this text with numerous instances of the word, which allowed me to guess from context.
