Need help with home theater speakers

I’m going nuts. In my old setup I had a hodgepodge of a Yamaha center speaker and a large pair of old and precious Dynaco speakers for L and R. The L&R’s can’t work in the new setup because of their size. I must forgo surround speakers because wireless is too expensive and I don’t want to run the wires (room doesn’t lend itself to this).

What I ideally want is a set of L&R speakers that have to be vertically wall-mounted and about 4 inches wide max. I’d settle for small cubes, I’m not that picky - the key here is the “narrowness”.

What I’m finding is either junk quality bundled with a DVD player/amp or extremely expensive full 6 speaker sets of 5.1 surround (with or without subwoofer). By expensive I mean over $650. Nothing in the middle.

The BOSE Cinemate looked good but I want something that plugs into my receiver, not the TV itself and the speakers needed to be horizontal.

Anyone out there savvy about speakers? Am I looking for something that no longer exists?

I assume you are going to use a sub because 4" wide cubes will lmit basss response. There are some very narrow and long speakers designed to attach to the sides of large home theatre televisions, but wall mounting them would be a challenge. Cubes + a sub are your best bet if you must limit width to 4".

Have you looked at something like the Polk RM8? You can find a pair for $250.
