Need Questions - Interviewing my potential boss

Here is the situation… I run a small software developement team for my company. We are growing and they are thinking about bringing in an experienced person to run all of IT, and I am one of the people that they want to interview candidates. The person that would be hired would be the person I directly report to and would be a high executive in the company. I’ve interviewed plenty of people for jobs that report to me or are a peer with me… but I’ve never interviewd an applicant that could be my boss. So, I’m looking for advice on questions to ask in this situation? I guess there is also that fine line of I want to ask probing questions and gauge how competent they are since this person will directly effect my future, yet at the same time don’t want to appear like a JO… since this person will directly effect my future.

Any advice or questions are appreciated.

Talk about things that are important for your team - I would suggest open-ended questions that give you insight into how they view you and your team such as “Tell me about how you have helped your last team grow in their careers” or “Tell me about a particularly difficult time you had with a team like this one and how you helped them succeed”.
