I’m trying to put together a list of statements that everyone - well OK, 98% of us - would agree with. The statements would have some political edge to them. Things like: Peace is better than war.
It’s good that everyone gets to vote in a democracy.
It’s unfortunate that there are countries where people can’t vote.
Statements could seem to imply a point of view, such as:
The US killed lots of civilians in WW II.
Or, on the other hand:
The allies defeated the Nazis and that’s a good thing.
Feel free to offer two sides of the same issue:
Public schooling has educated millions of kids.
Public education has created a bureaucracy with lots of teachers who can’t be fired.
If you disagree with any statements, please let me know, including, of course any of the above.
My goal, is to create a sort of anti Great Debates type of approach to conversation. So if someone tries to get an argument going I’d like to have five or ten things memorized that he’ll have to agree with. Oh, and lest you get the wrong idea, I’ll include:
Debating can sometimes be lots of fun and educational.
Debating can sometimes be boring and lead to fights and bad feelings.
Thanks.
