We found a three week old kitten on the side of the road yesterday; we got powdered cat milk from the store, but the directions are in Japanese and I’m not sure I’m mixing it right. Could someone look at this for me? Thanks!
*That’s a direct translation but I’m not entirely sure what that means. I think it’s saying this piece of paper only describes the mixture ratio; you have to read the instructions on the can to know how much of the mixture to give to the cat.
My daughter’s not fluent, but she’s taken three high school credits of Japanese and did a year-long independent study, so she’s pretty good at written Japanese. She translated “the part you need to mix the milk” this way:
“If you only have the spoon that comes with the milk, mix them together in a ratio of 1 spoonful of powdered milk (about 2 grams) to 1 and a half spoonfuls of water (about 10 ml). Use a dry spoon for the milk.
If you have a bottle, put 10 ml of hot water in it and add a spoonful of powdered milk.”
on edit: And it takes her a lot longer to translate than it took scr4!
Thank you!
However, you’ve broken a cardinal SDMB rule. Where are the pictures??
Now where’s the picture of the kitten?!

She looks pretty pitiful right now–her eyes are cloudy, but yesterday they were completely crusted over with gunk. Other than the upper respiratory stuff, she looks pretty good. Very spunky little thing. Another girl at the rescue organization I volunteer for just had some other kittens with the same stuff, so I’m using her leftover antibiotics and eye drops until I can take her to the vet tomorrow. Hopefully those eyes will start looking better soon, and I’ll post some more attractive photos.
The kink in the tail is apparently a common genetic thing in the cats on this island. The other cat and her kitten that I’m fostering also have kinked tails, but not as visible as this one.
Good for you! Even with the goopy eyes, she looks like a charmer.
Aren’t you and your family a military family? Be sure to get the cute critter checked by the Base Veterinarian. The Vet may also have suggestions as to what you can get from the Commissary to feed him (the cat, not the Vet).
