Need some "cool" love songs

Making a CD and I need some cool love songs. I don’t know how I would define cool but this is what I have so far;

This Year’s Love - David Gray
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Can’t Help Falling in Love With You - Elvis Presley

Songs that are obviously about love but don’t feel corny. Any songs are gladly accepted, I’ll sort them out later.

The coolest is undoubtedly Playground Love, by Air.

And I Love Her - The Beatles
Fever - Peggy Lee
The Girl From Ipanema - Astrud Gilberto

I really like that Playground Love, I had never heard it before. Really cool. I completely forgot about the Beatles, I’m running throught their songs now, good stuff. Haven’t heard Astrud’s song yet.

The ultimate cool tragic love song – Richard Thompson’s “1952 Vincent Black Lightning”

Once again, the all encompassing answer to these sorts of music questions: Sexy Motherfucker by Prince.

“Wicked Garden” – STP. That is if it doesn’t make you think of macho SUV’s :smack:

I’m more of a fan of idealistic, naive songs - songs that are more about the feeling of being in love. Try:

I Can Feel It - Sloan
Such Great Heights - The Postal Service
Elevator Love Letter - The Stars

In fact, the entirety of The Stars’ output is about love, in one form or another. Their new album, “Set Yourself on Fire,” is highly recommended.

One more - the Broken Social Scene’s “Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl.”

“God Only Knows”—The Beach Boys. One of the loveliest songs ever written. Period.

"

“Je t’aime”—Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin (more a sex song than a love song)

“If You Need Someone”—The Field Mice

“I’ll Stand By You”—Girls Aloud (depends on your definition of “cool.”)

“The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side” (or “A Chicken with its Head Cut Off”)—The Magnetic Fields

“Teardrop”—Massive Attack (not sure if it necessarily qualifies as a love song, but the lyrics start out “Love, love is a verb/love is a doing word/feathers on my breath.” I think this song is sexy as all get out.)

“As Lovely As You”—Alison Krauss & Union Station (for a bit of country & western)

“Wonderful World”—Sam Cooke

“Nothing Can Stop Us Now”—St. Etienne

“This Will Be Our Year”—The Zombies (from one of the greatest pop albums ever, Odyssey and Oracle

“Thank You”—Led Zeppelin (although Tori Amos has a version from her Crucify EP which I dare say isn’t all that bad.)

“Girlfriend”—Matthew Sweet

“I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love”—Petula Clark

“Hep Cat’s Love Song” - Cab Calloway
“I Don’t Know Why I Love You” - Ivy
“I Would Die 4 U” - Prince
“Million” - Jawbreaker
“I’d Have You Anytime” - George Harrison
“I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)” - Stevie Wonder

Be warned, I’m a bad judge of what’s cool and what isn’t. But…

Wicked Game—Chris Issak
Rachel’s Song—Blade Runner soundtrack

I’ve got a list of songs I’m going to do this too, when the opportunity and time arise… Here’s a few I have on my list, I tried to edit out the ‘uncool’ ones for you.

This Kiss - Faith Hill
You’re still the one - Shania
Message in a bottle - Police
You were wonderful - clapton
Crazy - Patsy Cline
Summer Breeze - Isley Bros
Grow old with me - Lennon
Someone like you - Van Morrison
Your song - Elton John
Babylon - David Gray
Unforgetable - Natalie & NatKingCole

In the Cool of the Evening- sung by damn near everyone
I’ve got you- Stone Temple Pilots

“Stand By Me.” I like Ben E. King’s original, but my favorite version is John Lennon’s. The raw sound on the vocal works for me, as does the guitar sound on the solo.

Dance Me to the End of Love - Leonard Cohen

Or anything else by Leonard Cohen…I’m You Man? …depending of course just how far you want to go on the corny-to-creepy spectrum.

I would also recommend looking into some old jazz tunes…back when people knew how to sing about love without sounding stupid.

Going through my music collection…
