Need some good Mothers day music

I don’t think Pink Floyds “Mother” counts. I need something I can play on the guitar though. Something simple but clever. Blue grass would be good, but anything works.

“Mama Tried” - Merle Haggard
“I Dreamed About Mama Last Night” - Hank Williams
“Teach Your Children” - CSNY
“Mother and Child Reunion” - Paul Simon
“Julia” - The Beatles (John Lennon’s ode to his mother)

You might also want to check out this album: Mama’s Hand: Bluegrass and Mountain Songs About Mother.

Anything by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.

“Up Against the Wall Motherfucker” by David Peel and the Lower East Side

Anything off of Pink Floyd’s “Atom Heart Mother”, though I’d go with the “Atom Heart Mother Suite”.

“Mama Tried” - by Merle Haggard, right, but I always liked the Grateful Dead doing it
“Sunrise, Sunset” (from Fiddler on the Roof)
“Turn Around” http://http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/n/nanci_griffith/turn_around.html
“Child’s Song” http://http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=3&q=http://www.cowboylyrics.com/tabs/rush-tom/childs-song-2245.html&ei=41zvSbb-HpSoM5SDvQQ&sig2=2SPBCTFmOwoNg-TJJMN-kA&usg=AFQjCNEMnzdHTRbrYHHkbADjuNCZZh0DhA

I’m sure we’ll think of more

“Will the congregation now please enjoy a bong hit for our twenty three minute offertory.” As much of a religious experience The Atom Heart Mother Suite is, I don’t think it would go over well even in a Unitarian Congregation. Besides I need to actually play it.
I('ll check sdome of those others out. I think there is a little too much talking in “I Dreamed About Mama Last Night”, but it might be fun.

Especially “Mother People,” from We’re Only in It for the Money.

I couldn’t find his recording of it on YouTube, but Randy Travis’ song Angels. Here is a cover that I did find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVNLX6ZIAVY&feature=PlayList&p=CA3290192C30F5E5&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=6

“Mother Sea” - Happy Rhodes (authorized mp3 download)

“Mother Stands For Comfort” - Kate Bush (fan video)

Ok, maybe not the Kate, since it’s dark and creepy (it’s about a mother who knows her son is a psychopathic serial killer, but loves him enough to cover up for him. She’s never said, but I have a theory it’s based on Stephen King’s The Dead Zone).

Easy melody, nothin fancy but still beautiful guitar line: Only Women Bleed by Alice Cooper. You’ll be the hit of your Mother’s Day party!

There’s a couple Uncle Bonsai songs that might work. Doug’s Birthday Song or Mother to Mother. (Womb for Rent might be pushing your luck a bit.)

“Your Mother Should Know” by the Beatles.

or “Loves Me Like a Rock”
Bad Mother’s Day music:
“Mother” - The Police
“Tie Your Mother Down” - Queen
“Oedipus Rex” - Tom Lehrer

“Mama” by Genesis
“Mama, I’m Coming Home” by Ozzy Osbourne.

I love this. Now I need to see if I can do it. We could get the choir into it too. I wonder if they will let me do it though. We don’t have a lot of metal heads that would appreciate it. Mostly it’s aging hippies.
