I have had a few pairs that work fine, but (I think) because they’re polarized my gps screen blacks out when I wear them. The nav I use now is an app on my iPad. I’ve searched this board and found plenty about sunglasses, but no specific advice about a type that will protect my eyes and allow me to see the display on my iPad.
Any well thought out ideas?
Thanks,
mangeorge
Just don’t get polarized ones. They don’t protect your eyes any better than non-ploarized, although they do cut down on some glare.
I love my Maui Jim’s for driving but I think they are all polarized though; Other decent ones are fine/good to worse but not remarkable as far as optics are concerned.
Porsche Design–they’re quite spendy but if you can believe this, used ones in excellent condition fetch over $100 a pair on ebay.
They stopped making them for many years but now they are back. I liked the old designs better but the new ones are still pretty cool.
The one style has interchangeable lenses which make them a snap to remove and clean and you can use the right lens for the right situation. IIRC the old ones offered at least eight different lens colors and gradients.
The pair I have now date to circa 1984. Yes, they are 27 years old. I have lost them a few times over the years but they have always found their way home somehow. Once my SO’s hefty friend sat on them but we were able to bend them back into shape.
Does the iPad rotate the screen when you turn it like touch screen phones?
If it does, just turn the screen 90 degrees and you’ll be able to see it clearly.
I actually thought about doing that, but then forgot. I just tried it and it works. I prefer portrait for this app, but that’s a small thing. I need to figure a way to modify my holder. Not a problem though.
I do have a SeaSucker, which works great, but it’s kinda big and white. And obvious.
Thanks Joey!

Polarized. Crap, mangeorge, use your branes.
Interesting. I wondered if my polarised sunglasses (Dirty Dogs) would cause a problem reading my GPS screen and other displays that use LCD but it hasn’t been a problem at all. I do notice if I turn my mobile to landscape screen: it all blacks out. Also, my watch date display if the watch is at about a 45degree angle, in other words, the usual natural angle to glance at it.
