I’m trying to find a particular book about the Beatles.
About 10 years ago, a guy I used to know had this book that had a couple of page write up about almost every Beatles song. It wasn’t a guitar tab book, but information about what the song was about, what instruments were used, other musicians that played on the tracks, etc. Basically, just tons of interesting bits of trivia. Kind of an everything-you-would-ever-want-to-know-about-“Here Comes the Sun” type of write up, for instance.
I did some searches on Google and Amazon, but unfortunately there is just too much Beatles on the web to narrow down the search. So, I was hoping the description might ring a bell with someone here.
From Amazon’s site:“This book may be a bit dry for some but it is the best information source on the Beatles’ music and recording processes, especially on the evolution of the tracks. Detailed session information, including performers, recording dates, and recording techniques (especially with regard to experimental pieces) are given as well as a generous helping of pictures (particularly the Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road photo shoots).”
Even if this isn’t the particular book you’re looking for, do yourself a favor and check it out. It’s the most detailed & informative book on the music of the Beatles that I’ve ever read. It’s like a Bible for the Beatles fan.
Thanks for the links. As I was checking them out I found some links to this book which seems fairly well rated as well.
The book by Lewisohn seems to be exactly what I’m looking for, though.
Man, and I just looked at the title of my original post again. What the hell does “indentify” mean? Oh well.
I picked up a used copy for $150, but then it had been signed by Paul McCartney, so I reckon it was worth it.
You might also check out A Day In The Life: The Music and Artistry Of The Beatles by Mark Hertsgaard. The book started out as an article for The New Yorker and grew from there. It’s available in paperback and well worth picking up.
