Cold noodles with peanut sauce and crushed peanuts and sesame oil and chopped scallions.
This just made me drool all over my keyboard.
Scarlett67, do they have vegetarian sushi? That stuff is awesome.
I think I’ve seen some, yes. I usually just get the California roll or cream cheese roll. Tried the Hawaiian roll once and it was too spicy for me (though Mr. S liked it). Yesterday I got some tuna rolls. Not brave enough to try anything more complicated like a rainbow roll because I like to know what’s in it and the labels are fairly incomprehensible (tiny print, sloppy checking off of ingredients). I don’t mind being more adventurous at a sushi place where I can peruse a menu, though.
I’ve read about “sushi snobs” who turn up their nose at grocery store sushi, saying it’s not fresh enough. Pah. We’re fairly new to sushi, but the grocery store stuff seems OK to us. (Though I’ll admit to being a bit nervous about trying the sashimi, which I adore in a restaurant.) The restaurant experience is nicer, sure, but we live out in the sticks and have to drive 40 miles to get it. Whereas I can pick up some grocery sushi on my way home if I’ve been to the city, and it makes a nice snack/treat when Mr. S gets home from work at 11 pm.
Party was yesterday. As yummy as falafel sounds, I finally decided it was too much work with all the other stuff I had to do. But I did make Palo Verde’s corn quiches, and they were fabulous!
Unfortunately I got distracted and let the crusts burn. But my came up with the idea of cutting off the crusts, removing them from the aluminum pan, and serving them presliced on a plate. They looked wonderfully rustic and were delicious.
Thanks, I will definitely be making these again! They would be great for potlucks.
