Comfort Food Party - What Would You Bring?

A dear friend of mine is undergoing a surgery soon that requires her to bid farewell to a couple beloved body parts. Namely, we’re tit(t)ling it a ‘Ta Ta to the Ta Ta’s’ bash. She has an excellent prognosis and this is not her first rodeo with the disease, so she knows what to expect re treatment/recovery. In short, she is handling it in a very matter-of-fact, non-dramatic manner. No sense of grimness.

The one thing she wants prior to the surgery is to have this party. We decided on a comfort food theme: Foods Your Doctor Wishes You Would Never Eat But Just This Once!

Obviously I will have a sign-up sheet so we don’t get 15 different versions of mac 'n cheese.

I plan to bring barbecued ribs. There will be a naughty cake.

I’d love to have some additional suggestions to offer for friends who aren’t quite sure of a menu option. Suggestions greatly appreciated!

Anything that is breaded and has been deep fried. A more time consuming and bad-as-you-want-it-to-be idea would be a big bad lasagna.

Cheesy potatoes with bacon.
Mashed Potatoes, lots o’ butter.

My wife’s old stand-by was a crockpot lasagna. This is pretty close to her recipe, and it was amazing and amazingly easy.

Well, I came in here to say macaroni and cheese, but I see that was addressed in the OP. So my second pick would be chocolate chip cookies, but only if they’re homemade.

There’s that infamous YouTube video of a rather large lady making a fruit fluff dessert. It had something like a jar of mayo, sweetened condensed milk, cool whip, marshmallows or marshmallow cream, instant jello, and a can of cherry pie filling. It may be the most unhealthy thing you (or your mother) would ever make, but it’s probably quite tasty.

Like Scotch Eggs. Nothing says heart attack like a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage that is then breaded and deep fried.

Yeah, there’s also oreo fluff, that creamed corn dish with the ritz crackers, cheesecake with caramel and chocolate sauce, candied bacon, snicker salad, ambrosia salad, fried chicken, twice-baked potatoes, meatball subs, pigs in a blanket…

Deviled eggs. Or those meatballs you make in the crockpot with grape jelly, which sounds horrifying but is actually pretty tasty.

I knew I could count on you guys.

Superb ideas, all, and I’d love to hear more! My heart flutters (or is that skipping beats?), and I’ve already gained 5 pounds just reading.

Chicken pot pie.

Shepherd’s Pie.

Cheese fondue. Or Bagna Càuda.

Chicken parmigiana.

Jalapeno poppers.

Gumbo.

Shrimp and grits.

Buffalo chicken wings?

Sausage biscuits or ham and biscuits
Cinnamon rolls
Pizza
Chili or other soup with cornbread
German Chocolate cake
Cherry pie with vanilla ice cream
Retro candy, e.g. Reese’s cups, Brach’s mix, maple Buns, lemon heads, Boson baked beans, candy necklaces, etc.

Are we related? Both these are my mother’s signature dishes IMHO. (No pickles in the eggs, right? Served slightly warm?)

Meat loaf, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, and green beans swimming in butter. :o

Comfort food: soup
Naughty pleasure: Ro-tel dip

No pickles, but definitely not warm.

yeah, important distinction. Thread title says one thing but the OP describes the other.

For naughty pleasure, I suppose you could try fried butter. (I never had it and it doesn’t sound particularly comforting, but I’m sure it’s terribly unhealthy.)

I always liked Fritos with French onion dip.

Of course a lot of this comfort food is really heavy, so she won’t be able to eat much of it.

For comfort and naughty pleasure I would say Chili Cheese Dogs, Biscuits and Sausage Gravy, or Chicken and Noodles… especially if you serve them like some people in Indiana do it… served over mashed potatoes.
