This is a message from a friend of mine…
I’m trying to install Internet Explorer 5.0 on my machine, windows 98 and am having trouble opening the zipped file. I’ve tried using winzip, and that doesn’t seem to work. Any help would be appreciated.

What happens when you try to decompress it with winzip?
Didn’t think MS distributed MSIE zipped, but I’d say that all things considered, you might just have an easier job DLing it from their web site again.
Okay, we’ll try that tomorrow. Thank you. Further bulletins as events warrant.

They don’t, but WINZIP (at least version 8.0) understands Microsoft’s single-executable-compression scheme.
(I didn’t realize that either until I pointed my copy of WINZIP 8.0 at my copy of IE5SETUP.EXE.)
Just click on the downloaded file, it should run & install.
Might not be zipped or self zipped.
