Neighbor rant

I have been living in my house with my parents for 15 years. It was a shitty neighborhood to begin with, but not as bad as it’s getting. Not to be racist, but we are the only white people left. The apartment across the street has drug dealers and people who stay home all day on workers comp or welfare. My PROBLEM is that they blast this chicano mexican aye yi yi music all night. They do this every Friday and Saturday until 3 or 4am. They start at like 9pm with all this partying and yelling. We call the cops on them every weekend, but nothing happens. What the hell? They should be getting ticketed for disturbing the peace. The cops never do shit. As soon as they see the cops round the corner they turn down the music and act innocent. I think they know the cops or pay them off. Recently we’ve been targeted by having our wall spray painted with “cracker”. Now we don’t talk to or know anyone around here anymore because our friends had enough sense to leave. Last night I got out of my car to open our huge padlocked drive fence and I hear some guy across the street “white fucking bitch”. What the fuck did I do? I think they know we call the cops, but what the fuck are you going to do when you’re trying to sleep at 2am and your windows are shaking and the music makes your head pound? I hate this fucking neighborhood so much, but I recently visited a friend my age (19) and she’s orking two jobs to pay her ent because her dad kicked her out. I need to stay home and save money to get out of this shit hole. I don’t want ot end up like my firend and I definitely do not want to live in a dorm where I’ll hear more music pounding and have to share a room with some bitch who steals my stuff. No thanks! I’ll just stay at home until I can afford a house. This music problem is not going away. My dad is becoming very angry right now. he says he’s going to take his gun out there and "scare"them. Yeah, I don’t think that will work, dad. So what should I do? The obvious question si to move, but my parents hate changing anything so I doubt they’ll move.

you need to move. Coming from “McKinley Park / Bridgeport” =Chicago.

really there comes a time.

Living in a dorm probably isn’t quite that bad. You can establish quite a rapport with your roommate, and either there will be too much mutual trust for them to steal your stuff, or you’ll be so close (or strung out–hey, it’s college, right?) that you won’t care. Also, at most schools you can request a single dorm, I think.

Well, you said that you visited your friend, who is working two jobs to pay her rent. Obviously, I don’t know how feasible this would be, but why don’t you move in with her?
