You’re citing your CAT as a witness? Cats lie all the time. And they aren’t bothered by it at all. I mean, even if you JUST SAW a cat finishing up some food, if you open a can (any can, not just tuna) then the cat will be RIGHT THERE, insisting that it’s starving, and hasn’t eaten in days. Weeks. Months. And of course the can contains tuna. According to cats, ALL cans contain tuna, or they should.
LOL! I have a recipe for chili that involves opening 7 cans. And after opening each of them I simply HAVE to present the lid for Her Majesty to sniff or I’ll never hear the end of it.
I don’t mind people parking in front of my house, as long as it is within a reasonable amount of time as I also use the curb space in front of my house sometimes.
I do mind my driveway being blocked making it difficult for me to access my driveway.
I have a long and narrow driveway that is a challenge to get in and out of so I don’t need people parking right up to the edge of it, then telling me I have plenty of room to get out. There is plenty of curb space to park at yet for some reason some people are drawn to park their vehicles right up to the edge of my driveway.
Is that legal to do that?
One time, for an entire week and I never could catch up with either owner, I had a large pick up on one side of the end of the drive way and a 5th wheel parked on the other side, even though there was a long stretch of curb said 5th wheel could have been placed instead.
I could not see around either of these obstacles, and took my chances backing out, having to end up in middle of the street before I could turn the car in the direction I wanted to head in, as I was doing my best to not hit either the truck or the 5th wheel.
I’ve had a flat bed trailer left in front of my house for a week and a former neighbors work vehicle left there for a entire month while said neighbor was overseas on vacation. But since we got along very well overall I didn’t have the car towed, even though I didn’t understand why her work vehicle needed to be parked in front of my house instead of hers, or why it had to be there at all. It was a work vehicle-why not leave it at work?
What bothered me most about all of the above is that no one came to me to discuss leaving their vehicles in front of my house for several days/weeks.
They just left the vehicles there without telling me why. It falls under the concept of just because you CAN do something doesn’t always mean that you should. In other words, I would have appreciated a heads up conversation so that I understood why I wouldn’t have access to the curb in front of my own home for awhile. I realize that the curb is city property. It’s just good neighbor courtesy to ask permission before leaving vehicles/trailers and 5th wheels in front of someone else’s home.
According to city rules my garbage can is to be placed at the curb in front of my house on garbage pick up day, which can’t be done when other people park there.
I’ve been placing my garbage can in the same place at that curb for several years yet occasionally a neighbor will park there instead of in front of their own home so I have to adjust. It’s only once a week so it is a minor annoyance although I wonder why the neighbor doesn’t take into account that they’ve seen me place my garbage can there weekly for years and maybe they should park elsewhere, like in their own empty driveway for instance? Just an idea.
I would like to know how legal it is for someone to park right up on the edge of your driveway, which limits visibility when backing out of the driveway.
EXACTLY!!! It’s Public Street, I get that, but why park your vehicle consistently in front of my home while there are NO Cars in front of your own home. (My subdivision, we All have 2 Car Garages and Driveway to fit 2-4 Cars in the Rear of our Homes).
I have One Neighbor to my right who park in front of my home and not their own. The street in front of their home, they never park there but rather would park in front of mine.
The other Neighbor to my left leaves room in front of their home so that his neighbor’s kids on the other side of him can park in front of his home and then he parks one of his old cars like its Furniture, hardly EVER moved for weeks at a time, in front of mine. Why??
It’s RUDE and shows no Courtesy. Now, I would be a Dick if I parked my Truck smack in front of My Neighbor’s Home. I have more than one vechicle. I don’t have to use my garage or driveway, I’m going to use the PUBLIC Street in front of your home. Makes sense to me. I’ll leave it there for a few weeks and let them both get a Nice Ocean View out the Front of their homes for a while. Yep
I just don’t understand it!
We have neighbours across the street who are doing this now; they have parking spaces behind their house, but they always park beside our house (we’re on a corner lot). I suspect it’s because they have 20 people living in their house, and they need more space. The only real asshole thing they’ve done is throw snow all over the sidewalk that my husband had just shovelled clear (they used their car - accelerating back and forth on the street, which caused the snow to spray over the sidewalk); I’m working on not letting it bother me - it is a public street, and they can park there (as long as they move the vehicle every 72 hours); I just don’t know why they have to park by my house, not by their own house. They have to cross a busy street with their small kids every time - just park on your own side!
Your city requires you to put your garbage can in the street, but doesn’t prohibit parking on garbage day? That’s kind of silly of them.
My city doesn't prohibit parking on garbage day, but I'm not supposed to put the cans in the street. They're supposed to be on the sidewalk close to the street, and parked cars don't prevent that.
In the case of our city, the garbage cans are picked up by the truck itself, so there needs to be enough room for the grabber thing to get to the cans. If there are cars parked in the street, it can be hard to get to the cans. We’ve had trouble with the people across the street - who have way too many people living there - parking two cars in front of our house, so that we actually have to put the cans in front of our driveway.
Am I an evil person because I checked this thread to see if BigTard had revived it for his rebuttal?
Anyhow, I used to park in front of houses with trees so I could eat lunch and read.
After reading this thread, I realized that people might take it wrong, so I knocked on doors one lunch hour so I could tell them that I was only using the shade.
2 of them were like whatever, and the third one…an elderly lady living alone wanted to talk books. I got into the habit of knocking on her door and sitting on her porch while we talked books. I kinda miss her now, it was a nice random break.
We used to live across from some folk who parked a kinda beat up van in their driveway every night. First thing every a.m., the son would back it out of the driveway to get his Trans Am out of the garage, and would park the van right in front of our living room window. No driveways would make that a better place than in front of their main window. And there were very few - if any - cars parked on that street throughout the day. So if that van weren’t parked there, it is likely there would be no car parked there most of the time most days. The van would stay there all day until he put his Trans Am to bed.
So yeah, it ain’t anywhere near the top things that annoy me, but given my druthers, I’d definitely prefer to look out my window and see something other than the rusty side of a van. They also kept a camper parked next to their garage for years. Not the worst thing in the world, but year in and year our it gets a little old to see “THE AVENGER” every time you look out your front window. Again, a mild irritant.
We asked the parents once, and the son a separate time, and they apologized - but kept parking there. So we let it go. Didn’t bother me nearly as much as when I thought I was just having a neighborly discussion with the old man and started in with some pretty heavy evangelical crap - essentially trying to save me without first ascertaining whether I had been lost.
Since some one else revived this…
I am on a corner lot and my driveway runs parallel to the main street and has entrances on both the main and side street. Lately about once a week, a car (not the same one) will use my driveway to cut through to the side street which makes no sense sine it doesn’t cut any time off and if people are confused about where to turn, that means they’re too stupid to drive.
Wasn’t BigTard. I know, weird, huh?
Here’s my bitch and moan, which is even pettier than the OPs. Which btw, I am 100% behind.
The guy across the street has begun parking his motorcycle in front of his house. Now it’s in front of his house, and he has every right to park there…except they have a 2.5 car driveway and they almost never have any cars parked there.
Now I don’t have a driveway, just a sort of shoulder area to park. And every day I make a U-turn to get to my road. His parking the motorcycle in front of his house means I can’t execute a smooth turn - I have to back up and finish my turn, or back all the way down my shoulder strip.
let me state again - he is ABSOLUTELY entitled to park where he is. But I still don’t get WHY. He has a gigantor driveway! And it’s just a motorcycle! It could fit right next to the car.
I don’t understand, ever, why people have driveways and don’t use them, or worse yet, have garages full of crap so they can’t park their cars in them.
Now I am never going to say anything to him. I even waved at him politely when I saw him the other day. But it is a (very mild) irritant. I certainly understand wanting people not to park in front of your house.
I am currently dealing with a similar situation. My neighbor has her employees park in front of our house instead of in front of her house or her unused driveway. We used to be friends, until I had the nerve to ask her for some of our possessions back. She is a single mom with 4 boys so I let her borrow our 2nd lawn blower and our son’s bicycle. I asked for them back several times, until finally she gave them back. Then the problems started.
We have 3 cars (mine, my husband’s, and our son’s) We would park one of them in front of our house so as to avoid having to jockey them when we needed to drive anywhere. One day we received a notice from the USPS that we could no longer park there because the mail truck had to be able to drive up to the box with no obstructions. So, we started parking all three in our driveway. My neighbor must have received the same notice because she started having her employees park in front of my house instead of her house. I didn’t say anything for a few weeks until one day I had another notice that I had to pick up my mail at the post office. I sent her a text and explained the situation and asked her if she could have them either park in front of her house or in her driveway, which was not being used. She continued to have them park in front of my house. The last time it happened, my daughter was very sick and I was at home alone with her. We were debating on calling the ambulance instead of me attempting to get her there myself. I noticed them all outside and one of her workers starting to park there again. I ran outside, I am sure I was a little hyper with everything going on, but I asked her worker to simply park up a little or 6 feet away on the other side, JUST FOR THE DAY, so the ambulance would have room to pull up for my daughter. I explained how sick she was and would you believe they still parked there, told me to F off, and reminded me it was a public street. (Sounds like a couple of posters here). Seriously, even if I detested my neighbor, I would have obliged her request.
Sorry I failed to clarify that it took over 2 years to get my things back.
So park your cars in front of HER mailbox.
Terri13 send a text to your neighbor
“Dear Neighbor, due to circumstances beyond my control, I will be forced to park one of my cars in front of your mailbox for the next few weeks. I trust this will not be a problem, as you can pick up your mail at the post office. Feel free to contact me, and we may be able to come to a reasonable agreement in regards to where shit gets parked around here.”
Check your local laws regarding the legality or illegality of parking too close to a mailbox.
Perhaps the motorcycle leaks oil and he doesn’t want to stain his driveway.
But anyway, I agree that even if you park your vehicle in front of your own house, you should try to do so in such a way that your neighbors will not be inconvenienced. For example, not parking exactly across from a driveway.
Well I would also check the local zoning map to see if the neighbor can legally run a business out of her house.
So…staining the road is completely OK?
What difference does it make anyway? It rains in both places.
Lol, I’m not sure how you got that out of my post. You were wondering why someone might park on the street when he has a driveway available. I proposed a possible reason. Whether the reason is legitimate or not is a different issue.
Have you ever had oil stains in your driveway? They don’t just wash away in the rain.
