Nero Wave Editor question.

Shortly after Christmas, I posted that I got a CD burner and wanted to know if it would work in my 233mhz computer even though the minimum requirement is 450mhz. Well, the burner works fine (and this is a temporary situation, soon I’ll be putting the burner in a faster computer), but I have a question about a problem with the wave editor.

I’m trying to record records and tapes to CD, but when playing back the songs I record, there is usually at least one place where the recording seems to skip. It’s not the source itself, since I don’t hear the skip when recording, but only during playback.

So, my question is, until I am able to switch to the faster computer, is there anything I can do in the meantime, or do I just have to wait? Is there an alternative wave editor that would be more stable, or is it that 233mhz (and only 96 megs) is the cause of the skips?

Oh, and some more info that may help you answer my question. I am currently using Windows 98 and I do shut down as many programs as I can (either directly, or with Ctrl-Alt-Del) before starting the wave editor.

All help is appreciated, thanks.

I used Nero to record on a 200 mhz/32mb machine and had no problems, but I did the burning on a much more powerful computer just because it was the only one with a burner.

It could be the burner, or the CDs you use…one brand I have won’t burn music correctly for some reason (it will add skips or it will only burn parts of things) but it will burn everything else fine. Additionally, the sound card you use can and probably will make a difference in the recording/playback.

Well, it’s not the burning that’s the problem. It’s using the wave editor to record songs and then save them as mp3 files so that I can then burn those onto a CD-R. Burning a CD is just fine.

Hmmm, sound card, I haven’t thought of that. I took out the old sound card, and since the computer is older and has a couple of ISA slots, put in a SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold.

I wonder too if recording at a lower sample rate would help. I’m currently recording at 44100hz. Maybe I’ll have to try recording at a lower rate.
