Nested quotes have been discontinued

My point is, saving you one fuckton of work imposes 100 fucktons of backspacing on the rest of us.

Stop saying this, as it’s clearly not true. It’s far less work (and much easier) to hit the MultiQuote button than it is to delete unwanted nested quotes.

For you maybe. My quoting experience was much easier with nested quotes. I was only remarking on the fact that the reason nested quotes aren’t coming back is because they are too advanced a concept for the general populace of the messageboard, a fact I find deliciously funny in view of the messageboard’s opinion of itself regarding general mental acuity.

7n < 2(n10)
n=number of posts needing editing to create nested quotes. (n
10) is the number of posts needing to delete unwanted nested quotes. OK, I pulled the 10X factor out of my ass, but I think I’m being conservative.

But that 7 step process ignores using the multi-post button and then selecting a dragging the quoted material you want to nest. Pretty trivial.

Besides, including extra posts when you hit the quote button on a single post is just poor design. Being able to pick and choose which posts we want to quote (using the mult-post button) is far better.

Although I personally prefer nested quotes, I agree with the mods’ decision to discontinue them, given the overall membership response and increase in misattribution reports.

What really should be done, but which can only be done by vBulletin (I believe), would be to allow each user to set their preferred quote nesting level in their UserCP (with the default being 1). It kind of boggles my mind that this isn’t an option already, given the years and years of requests for quoting nesting features on the vBulletin forums. Hopefully it will be added at some point, as it would make everybody happy or at least less angry all the time.

A reason that does not exist outside your feverish imagination.

[Moderator Note]

This is ATMB. Let’s dial it back. It should be possible to discuss a messageboard feature without casting aspersions on the mental capacity, competence, or selfishness of other posters with a difference of opinion on the matter. (I already issued a moderator note on this in this thread on Oct 18.)

So if I have this right, you are unable to handle the trivially easy MultiQuote button, but it’s everybody else’s stupidity that’s a problem.

I find the irony of your position deliciously funny.

Apologies if my last post is over the line. That moderator warning wasn’t there when I began composing, and I didn’t notice it on preview. I just now saw it and it’s too late to edit my post. (I’m not sure that would even be kosher to do.)

My bad.

Explanation accepted.
