Net Scam?

Had a strange encounter today w/ a salesman of sorts who was hawking a ‘kit’ to get connected to a very high speed (i think he said the download speeds were 400 K/sec) internet connection for a one-time fee. After pressing him for a bit, I found out he’s basically selling information about a loop-hole in a number of ISP’s systems that let you create and then cancel an account which will remain active if you create it with a certain name. Anyways, not sure if he was full or shit or what, but assuming what he said is true, was what he was doing legal? Selling info on how to cheat isps outta cash (without hacking or lying).

curious about most common laws (like anywhere in north america would be relitively similar I imagine).

cheers.

And you ask if this is a scam?

How do you spell f-r-a-u-d where you live?

well i always thought fraud was something involving lying, cheating or some sort of dishonesty. It seems this scheme is simply using systems that the isp provides without any external software or any hacks.

Sounds to me like the scam is in selling you a faulty information package. I find it extremely hard to believe that various ISPs would be unable to delete an account just because you created it under a “certain name.”

yeah if the info is false then its definately a scam, but lets assume that the information package is true, would it be legal to sell info on how to use an ISP’s own system to get cheap net access?

If this were real, I’d think the guy would have figured out that he’d make more money, and have an easier time reselling his “free” internet access instead of just the idea how to do it.
